First Foreign Language Deal: Novel to be published in Germany

I'm delighted to announce that my debut space opera novel http://www.solarisbooks.com/titles/t...e_noise_within (which came out in the UK and USA last year) is to be published in Germany by Heyne, a German publishing house dating back to the 1930s.

This is my first ever foreign language deal, so please excuse my enthusiasm as I say...

WOO-HOO!!

Nice one Ian. Congratulations!

Now, I really must get around to picking up your books and giving them a read. I keep saying it but I have so much on my TBR that I keep not getting around to it

Danke. Es tut mir leid, aber meine deutsch ist nicht sehr gut. Ich kann nur ein bischen gesprechen... Das ist alles.

Does this mean the German books will be much better quality than the British ones, maybe with a lifetime guarantee against curling covers and sat nav fitted as standard?

Sehr gut, mein freind!

Your book will be considerably larger in terms of pages than the English version. I remember speaking to the fantasy author Jane Welch about it, she said her books were half as long again. In fact, I think one was split into two for the Deutsche edition...

But the word-count might still be lower, if my memory of German is anything to go by.

If mass market paperback, they'll be of about the same quality as American paperbacks. Heyne published some of my books some time ago, and the pages are turning yellow around the edges. The cover stock is, I think, a tiny bit thicker. I don't know what their hardcovers are like.

And yes, my thin little volumes came out looking a lot more robust.
