Interesting!

I think it may have already set a record for the longest time between posting the theme and the first story -- and it's still running!

Well I can't promise to post quickly, but I already have an idea...

A really good theme, I like this one!

Another round of theatre stories? I'm still flummoxed on this one, despite a restless night where I almost had an idea or two (which I've forgotten).

Intriguing, Hex. Intriguing.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

I meant 'behind the scenes' metaphorically rather than theatrically(*), perhaps I should have said so in the post. Not sure about the distinction of having chosen the story thread with the longest time between posting and the first story, but you know, distinction is distinction.

(Should I have gone for the ski-jump drive letter after all, I wonder?)

(*) Maybe "as well as" theatrically, actually.

I'm sure we'd all come to realising what you meant, if only to avoid having to research what happens in the part of a theatre that most of us haven't ever seen (except in fiction). In this case, Desperation would be the Mother of Realisation.

For what it's worth, I think it's an excellent subject. We'll (well, I'll) really have to work hard to produce a story while at the same time showing how the "action" isn't in the foreground. And all in 75 words.

I have several metaphorical ideas rolling around in my head right now, but none of them are exactly stories yet.

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Good theme. Not that I've any ideas, yet. And while it's been good to stretch the mind through the constricting of the genre in recent months, it's nice to have a general genre again for a month to loosen up the storytelling muscles.

And speaking of theatrically, I've been on a back stage tour at Chichester Festival Theatre which was really interesting -- if a theatre near you offers the chance, jump at it.

A general SFF genre, you mean, don't you?

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Blimey HB! A whoopingly great story to start us off!

I have to admit I had no ideas until I read through this discussion thread, which brought back memories of working in a youth drama group. I was never confident enough to even think about being front of house, but I had fingers in many pies back stage . . . .

Mmmmmmm *rubs chin thoughtfully and ambles off to enjoy a rare bit of sunshine in the garden*

Good theme!

My first thoughts were "I am the great and powerful Wizard of Oz!"

Funnily enough I thought the same.

Great minds... (sometimes leak ideas and I pick up on them)

Re: Discussion September 2011 Writing Challenge

Having read the first three (excellent) stories posted it seems as though there is a lingering afterthought from last month's theme, I found them to be slightly gruesome, bordering on horror (albeit with a sci-fi or fantasy edge) HB especially, would not have been out of place in last month's theme/genre.

I too thought of Oz, or the recent Dr Who episode (little men in a robot) or nanobots. No ideas as of yet, but I'll keep the theme in the fore front of my mind and see what happens behind the scenes
