| ‘A Red Country,’ or possibly just, ‘Red Country’. Joe's new novel. Any ideas on what it could be about? I'm hopeing for a new Main. Ferro should get a mention, at least as a minor character, and it should be based in the south. And obviously Logen has to return! |

| The Wicked Sword Maiden | Re: ‘A Red Country,’ or possibly just, ‘Red Country’. I'll be quite happy with a new series, with or without the previous characters. Unfortunately our Joe has given us very few clues! Deliberately, I would suggest, just to keep us wondering and for Menion to start this new thread |

| Re: ‘A Red Country,’ or possibly just, ‘Red Country’. I'd suspect the new book being about Styria, a bloody red country indeed. Monza Murcatto has made an enemy of both the Prophet and the Magi. She's backed by a yet undefined 'third side' (perhaps the pure demons that also took over Ferro and the Maker's daughter?). In 'The Heroes' it's made clear that the Union is going to war to Styria, and the Prophet, having lost in the North, can't afford to loose Styria, so they'll either have to help Murcatto or attack the Union. My guess is that the next book will be localised in Styria, possibly with scenes taking place in Midderland or the South. |

| Re: ‘A Red Country,’ or possibly just, ‘Red Country’. Seems I was right: A synopsis post by Joe himself: “Shy South comes home to her farm to find a blackened shell, her brother and sister stolen, and knows she’ll have to go back to bad old ways if she’s ever to see them again. She sets off in pursuit with only her cowardly old step-father Lamb for company. But it turns out he’s hiding a bloody past of his own. None bloodier. Their journey will take them across the lawless plains, to a frontier town gripped by gold fever, through feuds, duels, and massacres, high into unmapped mountains to a reckoning with ancient enemies, and force them into alliance with Nicomo Cosca, infamous soldier of fortune, a man no one should ever have to trust…” |

| Re: ‘A Red Country,’ or possibly just, ‘Red Country’. I think the comments of that post suggest the location is roughly between the frontier of the Old Empire (my favourite part of the Circle of the World) and Styria. I'm looking forward to it. |

I think "Lamb" (working name?) could very well be Logan, but that means this book must come way later in time, if he has married and settled down. By calling him cowardly kinda makes me hesitate, I wouldn't call the bloody nine cowardly. If he is just 'seen' as cowardly because he is hiding from his past, then maybe. I like the western theme he is introducing. I'm doing a bit of that in one of my writings. | |
