New author

Hey guys pretty new to the forum here just thought id ask something. I just finished the belgariad and am eagerly awaiting for the mallorean to arrive. i was really down when I found out Eddings was dead. I was just wondering if you guys thought a new author should/could pick up the world and characters?

Re: New author

There isn't a lot of room with the Belgariad, the prequels cover a few thousand years leading up to it and it's probably one of the most 'nicely tied up, no loose ends' type of series I've read.

Re: New author

That's what I meant when I said Belgariad. The Belgariad, Mallorean and the prequels, combined finish the world off well. Any sequel for me couldn't use the original main characters, I'd just be thinking it wasn't David and Leigh Eddings.

But if you're still in the mood for more Eddings after Garion and friends there's always the Elenium and Tamuli, it's a different world but it's all very familiar .

Re: New author

no, no new author could have anything like the feel the Eddings' gave their stories. husband/wife collaboration. Nothing else would come close.

Re: New author

I'd have to agree with what everyone else has said. There's no room for more story at the end of the Mallorean - it would spoil it if someone tried to tack something else on the end.
The lead up is beautifully covered by Belgarath the Sorcerer (my favourite out of all of them) and Polgara the sorceress (although that's not quite as good imo)

Re: New author

Whilst official books set in the Eddings Belgariad world would be completely disrespectful, fan-fiction, well written and posted for free, is always a viable alternative. The Elenium/Tamuli world would be MUCH better to set fan fiction in tho - since the world isn't closed off to possibilities. The "Destiny" in Belgariad was pretty limiting... (personally I would have chosen Geran at the end, trusting to a Child of Dark, rather than Light)

Re: New author

I agree that the Elenium/Tamuli world has more scope for expansion than the Belgariad world. In the Belgariad universe, all the various factions/races seem to be coming to a long awaited peace, whereas the factions in Elenium were still warring with each other. Not to mention there's the whole desert continent which wasn't fully explored.
