Re: Newspaper Reaches New Low...

It almost beats the reporting of the yacht nonsense.

"Mr. Osborne, you didn't take any money from somebody you met on holiday. When will you resign?!"

Re: Newspaper Reaches New Low...

It has to be said, it's getting interesting.

Who's next I wonder.

I also wonder if there's a connection to those people that chip at stone.

With the interleaving of who's involved, nothing would surprise me.

Re: Newspaper Reaches New Low...

It looks like I was wrong - this isn't going to blow over but gets bigger every day. If it keeps up, I might even allow Sky TV into the house one day!

The Police have become far too politicized, and if this puts an end to that some more good will have been achieved.

Exactly right! They were so scared ******** of News International and what Murdoch's Newspapers could do to them that they kept quiet for six years! If Gordon Brown felt drawn to cry because of his treatment then why did he join them for photographs? Because Murdoch was a 'King maker'. It is appalling the way in which they all sucked up to and toadied Murdoch. Obviously, he has been running the country for at least the last decade.

Yes, it is more than a mistake or lack of judgement, it was willful negligence at the very least, if not more.

When I listen to this on the radio in the car, I wonder, "After all these resignations will there be anyone left?"

Still, no shortage of jobs as advisers and in PR!

New twist:

The whistleblower that broke this story was found dead today. But don't worry, the police that have been burned by these revelations assure us that there was nothing suspicious about the death at the same time they assert they don't know the cause of death yet

Thing is, Thadd, that (although there is a presumption of innocence) we won't know what he knew or why he resigned twice (not fired) until all the evidence is in.

And if all else fails, there's always politics, where teflon-esque abilities are always in demand.

Yeah, although I do sympathise with politicians. 24 hour media, sensationalism, and a hunt for scalps rather than informed debate is not a conducive atmosphere to calm and sensible discussion.

Now's a good example. Some want Cameron to resign, but nobody is alleging he or Coulson have, in government, done anything wrong.

Re: Newspaper Reaches New Low...

I've noticed that all the 'accused' profess thier innocence, saying that they have 'done nothing wrong' or 'had no knowledge of the wrong doing going on during thier watch'.
I was wondering if their sentencing (if they are found guilty!) will reflect that they didn't plead guilty, although I suppose a press release saying 'I didn't do nothing' isn't the same as a plea when in court, I can't imagine any of them will plead guilty, so hopefully when some of them are found guilty they will be punished accoridngly (and taking into account thier lies in court and failure to admit to their wrong doings)

It'll be an interesting few hours this afternoon, roll on 2pm

Re: Newspaper Reaches New Low...

All of which assumes any of this sees the inside of a courtroom, MB. As of yet, I don't believe anyone's even been charged, just cautioned.

As for this afternoon...I suspect it'll be an anticlimax. My suspicion is that the Murdochs will say very little (someone on Radio 4 invoked the select committee appearance of the Maxwells all those years ago, where they essentially made a statement and then kept completely shtum for the rest of the session), and Brooks won't be able to say anything for legal reasons.

Re: Newspaper Reaches New Low...

I'm loving this, Rupert Murdoch has just told parliament: 'If they paid you guys properly, we wouldn't be able to bribe you' -- and got them all to smile.

EDIT: How long in jail for a custard pie? 6 months? For 2 million pounds? I'd do it ...

Well, that was abrupt. Everything ground to a halt because of a guy with...white paint? Oh, shaving foam, it's now being said. Murdoch's wife has some fast reflexes.

Apparently Nick Robinson tried to talk to the guy and he replied that he was under a police investigation now and couldn't reply...

Murdoch's just lost a billion. He must be proud of his son, he's a good actor

Re: Newspaper Reaches New Low...

James does come across well with his "May I? May I...?" and "that's a very good question..."

As Brian Cox has just said on Twitter, it's good that they've carried on and not let the whole foamgate interrupt more than necessary. But as mentioned by someone else, the headlines tomorrow will probably be all about "Murdoch attacked"...
