In hindsight, sciencsy probably wasn't the right word, since it's a fantasy novel, not sci-fi. I just meant a more technical name. I've decided to call the first one A Touch of Ice - Awakening and the second one A Touch of Ice - Revival |

Great news! I made a similar call (changing a series from 3 volumes of 3 sections each (9 sections total) to 4 volumes of 2 sections each (8 sections total)) recently and it's an awesome feeling to realise it means you're ahead in a weird way (for example I was only half way through the second volume, now both the first and second volume are complete!). On the down side, I have to come up with a name for volume 3 (the old volume 3 name goes to volume 4) and I am stumped!

![]() At least tentatively. I'm also thinking about calling book one: A Breath of Frost, and book two can have the A Touch of Ice name.

I quite like that. I like my titles to evoke the mood of the book, but also to reflect the primary philosophical idea I'm exploring. For example the second volume is "Ripples In The Pond", which relates to ideas about chaos theory which I explore in that volume. The idea of ripples on a pond also evokes the idea of the the initial drops of rain on a body of water, as the first edges of a storm approaches.

A Touch of Ice is directly related to the central figure of the story for the first two books, a character that can manipulate water and ice.

| Lagomorphing | Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer) I think awakening and revival are too close in meaning. It would have more impact if the two names were opposites, or suggested some story by themselves (as "rise" and "fall" do, for example). |

| Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer) Re rise and fall: if the first volume was somehow concerned with corporal punishment, and the protagonist's name was not yet fixed, you could have: A Touch of Ice - Whacks and A Touch of Ice - Wayne. ![]() I'll get my coat. |

Her fingers are fumbling for the...what is a good word for the fastenings of a super suit? Buttons don't sound right. Zipper I'm not too keen on either. Ideas? |

| Summon Beer Elemental! | Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer) That's my problem. I have never owned a super suit, either. I'm thinking they can't be at the front, since all super heroes have some sort of trademarked symbol on the front of their costumes, and you just can't have a zipper running through the middle of that! Perhaps if the fastening is at the back, that's why heroes need sidekicks. Hmmm. Of course, at this point in the story, parts of her super suit are a half-melted mess. If that includes the fastenings, then maybe I can fudge it by saying she can't undo a melted mess, and never actually name the offending fastenings. |

| Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer) Surely no fastening (beyond an elasticated waistband) is required for the underpants(sic), while the spandex long johns beneath just need a bit of Velcro**. ** - The superhero's symbol can be used as a handy grab-hold and point of alignment. |
