At the top of the thread, I see an advertisment for a company that dries out your wet and stinky carpets.
Perhaps the software thinks that a werewolf is a car-sized pet.

(I hope it's a very small car they have in mind....)

What do you need them for? Tools, jewellery, weapons?

Pebbles? Resin? Um, thinking back to a thread of mine a long time ago and suggestions that came up. some hard woods like mahogany. For money; maybe dried seeds (sunflowers or something.)

What about something like obsidian, jade or polished stone. Tropical forest will have stuff lying under and on the ground that you could use.

Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer)

For currency it must be something that has intrinsic value. If it was seeds (or anything that could just be easily found) they would have to be very rare otherwise everyone would be rich. Actually they wouldn't because everyone would collect so many they would end up with no value.

Sounds like a new business venture there in the making, untapped market!

Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer)

Hope,
Currency - before the Spanish conquest, the Mesoamerican cultures used cocoa beans as a currency. As Venusian Broon says, semi-precious stones could also be used.

For tools and weapons, hard woods such as mahogany are very effective, as springs says. Stone is also surprisingly effective and can be attached to wooden handles, etc. Forest vines, or lianas, make very effective cording material to tie things together.

Certain shells have also been used in the past as currency, particularly cowrie shells, but they're not generally found in tropical forests. However, shells do make pretty jewellery, even those from snail and water molluscs as does polished wood.

Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer)

Hope, all of the above suggestions are good, but what sort of world are you making (apart from tropical)?

Dragon eggs would be worth a lot to the right "buyer" for example, either whole and unhatched so the infant dragon can be raised as a riding beast, as a delicacy, or the empty shell upon which you may commit the carving of some fantastical art (which may then increase the value, depending on the skill of the artist).

Religious items? Carvings of gods, demons and sundry supernatural critters -- as sacred/magical objects that either attract good mojo or repel bad. Use stone, bone, or dragon eggshells or dragon scales (preferably not while still attached to said dragon -- they don't like that).

Also, I believe both livestock and slaves may be considered as a kind of "currency" (again, not knowing the details of your world, I'm not sure what you want to use, so I'm just throwing ideas out there and seeing what sticks).

Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer)

And, Hope, if your tropical world is post-apocalyse...

Usable weapons and tools would have enormous value. In the kingdom of the obsidian knife, the man with a Swiss Army Knife is King.

Depending on how long since the apocalypse (and the nature of it), tech is probably no longer functional. That razor-thin plasma TV is now no more than a decorative paperweight. Assuming paper still exists.

In the absence of toilet paper, the last books in the world are valued only for their soft, strong, and thoroughly absorbent pages.

Re: Quick Fire Questions (A Place to Ask and Answer)

He he; there was a bit on the TV last night about soldiers in the trenches in the first wolrd war. They had excavated some personal effects at a dig site which included a small package of carefully preserved scraps of paper. Apparently any bits of paper the soldiers could lay their hands on were carefully looked after for toilet paper. Also apparently one favourite source of such paper was religious leaflets handed out to them behind the lines!
