Boffins Unveil Formula for Perfect Brew

It was Oscar Wilde, in his 1889 essay The Decay of Lying who wrote that "Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life." It seems that Toby Frost's "Boffins" actually really exist and have finally discovered the secret of the perfect cup of tea. They are still working on finding the "moral fibre."

Orwell was right! Tea first, milk in after!

This argument rages amongst my friends and now science is on my side. As I knew it would be.

Re: Boffins Unveil Formula for Perfect Brew

Anything that suggests milk after is inherently wrong and a disgraceful abuse of scientific precepts.

And since this excludes the TEA POT it is an ABOMINATION!

When I saw the word 'brew' in the title I thought this thread was going to be about beer.

However, I do like a good cup of tea. And it's just got to be milk in afterwards!

Of course it should be tea first, milk after.

Someone I knew (this was many decades ago) claimed that "the way" (I expect it was "one way") they make tea in India is to:
  1. boil up the water;
  2. add the tea and boil it up again;
  3. add the milk and boil it up again.
I don't follow this procedure: I'm sure it would make a mess of my electric kettle....

Of course milk goes in after, otherwise you don't know how much milk to put in. What sort of crazy person puts milk in first?!

All right-thinking people. The milk scalds if you put it in after.

Milk in last. All else is heresy.

*sighs* I once caught someone making coffee... they'd put in the coffee *and* the milk before waiting for the water to boil. Some people...

Ah you see the big mistake there is putting milk in coffee full stop.

But the biggest mistake is putting in the coffee.

Vladd, I also drink coffee without milk

Ursa, I far prefer the taste of tea to coffee, but sadly I must drink the latter for gruesome reasons of a medical nature.

Tea first, then milk. Although my mum still uses tea leafs, puts milk in first says it scalds if put in after. She thinks I'm mad cause I use bags, make in the cup, and don't possess teapot or strainer.

And your mother is completely correct on all matters!

Teabag [or coffee), milk, sugar and teaspoon in the mug, fill up with boiling water, leave, stir, squeeze teabag, throw teabag into compost bin, stir again and drink. Simples! Goddess, it's a drink, not a scale model of the Millennium Falcon...

Heresy! To your pitchforks, villagers!

(Actually, it does tend to work out pretty much that way...)
