Re: Who is your favourite Who- Mark 2

I have to go for Tennant, I do like Smith, but I think he'll grow on me. Not really old enough for the older Doctor's, I do remember McCoy being rubbish, and Baker wasn't bad.

But I wonder if the quality of the Who episodes has a direct effect on the popularity of the Dr? If Smith got better episodes would he surpass Baker?

Tom Baker, easily.

'My' Doctor was Sylvester McCoy, but I was rather more taken with Ace. If there were a best companion poll I'd vote for her.

2nd Doctor Patrick Troughton is my favourite, I loved his style and the dynamic between him and Jamie was brilliant. Matt Smith is a very good doctor and I like his work on Doctor Who, if he does more he may make my list as one of the best, but for me it's always been Troughton.

Re: Who is your favourite Who- Mark 2

I'm not going to vote until I've seen them all, just in case. I'm now only 5 episodes short of the entire "modern" set from 2005 forward, and then I'll be working my way through the old ones. I've also seen a couple of Tom Baker ones.

I still believe "you never forget your first Doctor" and mine is Matt Smith, but I am also crushing on David Tennant bigtime.

David Tennant ((Swoon))for me & I have watched virtually every episode from the very begining, with Norman Hartnell.
I agree with Little Missy, can't get Matt Smith at all.

Tennant, just over Tom Baker. I met him and nearly fainted cos he really was my doctor. I also met Paul McGann, very nice chap - I could start a collection.

Re: Who is your favourite Who- Mark 2

May I pick three?

McGann has impressed me on radio and I'd be happy to see him in an Eccleston/Time Wars cross-over, at the very least.

Tom Baker is still the one whom everyone since has been imitating, by and large.

I quite liked Davison and the stories he was given.

Eccleston should have given it a bit longer to get into it, I think we would have seen a great Who.

Tennant, however, remains my pick of the current crop.

Darn it, I'm gonna come out in favour of all of them at this rate. Hartnell and Troughton were so different and so remarkable in different ways, it's very hard to imagine how the series could have survived without them both.

Ok, then, today I are mostly voting for..................Sylvester Stallone. Largely cos he ain't Matt Smith (whom I dislike )

There. That thew ya

I watched a few Stallone episodes a while ago and it was one of the saddest things I've done in a long time. He worked so hard and was given so little to work with. Most of the stories were childish and unimportant and Ace should have finished acting classes before accompanying him. I can't bring myself to watch the Colin Baker ones at all, though, which I missed the first time around cos I seem to recall having a life or something at the time - could be wrong, though .

I like them all for different reasons (even Colin Baker - I want that coat) , but for me the prize goes to John Pertwee, with Tom Baker and Matt Smith tied in second place. I just can't think of a 3rd Doctor Story I dislike.

Re: Who is your favourite Who- Mark 2

I just cannot vote. To me there are too many great doctors. Some like Sylvester let down by terrible scripts. Even in NuWho Matt Smith is being let down by poor overcomplex scripts. I just loved the way Christopher Ecclestone kick started the new series. I felt that Tennant was a great Doctor and sadly missed him going, but Matt Smith has the potential to be better, especially if the scripts let him.

Tom Baker was the first Who I ever saw 30 years ago and he still remains my favorite. I like the newr guys but I still refused to swayed by the new special effects.

Re: Who is your favourite Who- Mark 2

I`m torn between eccleston and tennant becouse eccleston was funny and tennant was awsome in critical situations.
so i know it sounds weired but i wish they could merge them together lol.

matt smith is ok i suppose but he`s not a patch on eccleston and tennant.

Usually when a Doctor regenerates I'm ready for them to regenerate as well, but when the Tenth said, "I don't want to go" I didn't want him to go either. Only Peter Davison came close in my previous experience (and I'd been watching since before Jon Pertwee regenerated) and in hindsight I was only sorry to see him go because the Sixth and Seventh Doctors were so, not 'awful' but 'meh' in comparison.

I'd have liked Chris Eccleston to have done more NuWho but while he laid the foundations of the new show, which Tennant so ably built upon, he was clearly not enjoying the experience of making the show (in a way which Tennant did and Smith apparently does) and the role of the Doctor was just that, a role, the same as any other part he might have played, so it felt right that he should only do that first season (which, in effect, is all you need to show a new viewer for them to have a rounded understanding of what Doctor Who is all about; in that respect, it was the perfect season).

I've nothing against Matt Smith as an actor but I felt it did take until his final episode in his first season for him to fully embody the role; prior to that he'd all too often seemed like a Tennant-lite to me and not enough of Smith's own personality had been evident for my liking. Sadly, he's been woefully catered for in terms of quality scripts in the current season (with the sole exception of Neil Gaiman's episode) and my personal view is that Steven Moffat is killing the show with his 'look-at-me-I'm-such-a-clever-clogs-(although-I-haven't-had-an-original-idea-since-I-took-over)-I-luv-River-bloody-Song-timey-whimey' bobbins and consequently I've stopped watching since the travesty that was 'Let's Kill Hitler'. So Matt Smith could be bloody brilliant but I'd never know because I refuse to watch another episode that Moffat has anything to do with.

Of the 'Classic' series actors, I've got a lot of time for Hartnell and Troughton and really most of what the others actors do is still in the tradition of one or the other: grumpy or funny.
That sounds so lazy, but, yeah, those are my thoughts exactly. I loved Tennant as new gen Doctor. I don#t mind Matt Smith as an actor but there is just something off. it's all a bit too much to be believable. And some of the episodes with Smith as Doctor where frankly boring ("Curse of the Black Sport", for example) It's not his fault I'd say. It's the script that was bad and he is probably encouraged to let the "crazy" Doctor hang out. It's just so hipster that my eyes bleed sometimes.

Re: Who is your favourite Who- Mark 2

I've recently started to watch the older seasons. After watching some episodes that I thought would be interesting such as: The 5 doctors, Logopolis, Time and the Rani, and a few more, I settled in watching season 16: the Key of time. I'll always love David Tennant as the Doctor but Tom Baker is and was an unmistakable genius.

Re: Who is your favourite Who- Mark 2

I really like David Tennant, but after two seasons of Matt Smith, I've started to like Matt Smith just that bit better. David's portrayal of the doctor got a bit too dramatic for my liking, he started to get angry, which was of course inline with the story, but Matt's personality just comes over better to me.
