I think there might be a virus problem :(

I kept getting popups saying attacks on my computer had been blocked. Each attack followed me clicking on a link here.

The risk name is Exploit Kit Variant Activity 3.

I'm really a luddite with this kind of thing, but I thought I'd better mention it.

You know, I got a similar sort of thing from Avast today....what happened was that it aborted my connection to Opera.

Try an online scan through IE.

If it won't run, there's a chance you'll have to wipe your computer.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

Well everything is running okay for me now, Avast managed to block it but, it was a rather big surprise. I hadn't visited any websites that aren't trustworthy or downloaded anything fishy.

And it happened twice, right within a few minutes of each other, but hasn't happened again for hours.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I've had the same thing. Norton reported it three times. What I found worrying was that the alert said that it had noticed an odd pattern of behavior from the source of the problem and that the source was my machine. It rather gave the impression that Norton was protecting the rest of the Internet from my laptop. (Doesn't it know who paid for the damn software! )

I don't know if it's connected (no pun intended), but each time I've accessed the Chrons the last day or so, I've had an "Oops!" message. Refresh hasn't worked, but clicking on the URL within the Oops message has, although it redirects immediately afterwards to the page I thought I was already requesting. Once it has found the Chrons, there have been no problems until the next session (give or take the virus alerts).

Malwarebytes is an awesome free download, I use it as well as Norton. I hit full scan once a week or so and it picks up any oddities Norton can't resolve or has let slip through. Totally free and safe.

Also when you download something, prior to opening it, right click the item and scan first with Malwarebytes to check it's safe, saved me a couple of times with film and program downloads.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I've no idea if what I've experienced is connected, but when I logged on tonight, I seemed to get here OK but then I had a funny message from Firefox, something like it couldn't recognise the site (unfortunately I didn't make a note of the exact wording and it meant nothing to me), and I got a "blocking pop-ups" message, which it's never done before here on Chrons. Then the whole thing hung for about 30 seconds and I couldn't get anywhere. Never had it happen before.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I'm already blocking pop-ups and have experienced nothing. I expect that the problem is with one of the Google ads.

I use malwarebytes all the time myself, it's useful enough.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

Every time I move to another page on the Chrons, Norton detects the Exploit Kit activity.

The alert comes up on no other site. (Okay, I've only visited a handful, but I still don't think this is a coincidence.)

EDIT: Posting this message brought up an alert. I expect posting this edit will do the same. (EDIT: It didn't.)

opera now blocks this site as a malware site. not sure what you can do about it, its definetly eroneous reports.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I too am getting an error.
I use Avast, and each time a different page loads on this site I get a message that it has blocked a malicious URL the exact details it gives me are

Avast! Network shield has blocked a harmful site.

Object: lopolop.cz.cc/QQkFBwQHBQEDBwYBEkcJBQcEAAYMBQAFAA==
Infection: Url:Mal
Action: Blocked
Process: c:\Program Files (x86)\Interent Explorer\iexplore.exe

I am having a look on-line to see what I can find out about it, the only thing I have found is mention of false positives if Avast discovers what it thinks is Adware on the site. Is there a possibility that some new Advert is causing this?

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I am getting the exact same message as Moonbat on every page refresh on the site.

Ursa, posting generates a complete page refresh, hence the alert, editing does not generate a complete page refresh (it just modifies the existing text on the page) and so doesn't generate the alert.

I'm getting that lololop thing too on here! AVG picked it up and shut down IE.
