Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

Kaspersky is picking up a virus of some kind on every page also. Given that a decent number of people are getting it, I'd say its a safe assumption that something is wrong in chrons world.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

It doesn't look like a google ads thing. The URL associated with the google add at the top of the page is completely different to this one.

Although avast is blocking the URL it does appear as an "intermediate" page in my history. So I hit it when I go back a page. In other words when I go to page x from page y, I see x and y in the history but there is this URL sitting between the two [URL given] and this is the one generating the alert.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

Oh I forgot to add this. Kaspersky shows the object the virus is coming from as:

http://www.sffchronicles.co.uk/forum...event.js?v=385

Oh and it names the virus: HEUR:Trojan.Script.Iframer

did a quick google and it's either a false positive (which given how many people have started getting something happening since today seems a little unlikely)

or according to some guy on the interwebz

It does this through embedding an iframe, which is a HTML code element. As it is an iframe, it may not be the actual site that is infected, but it may be that someone exploited the comment system and managed to embed an iframe with the trojan in it. Either way, avoid the site if you can, if not, make the web administrator aware of it if you can.

AVG now reports a blocked threat when I come here as well - calling it blackhole.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I've been getting it too -- when I hit 'go back'. But this morning a big red full-page warning from NORTON warned me not to open on SFF CHRONS at all. It said the 'virus risk' was from something called loptop, known for distributing 'malware'. (See Vertigo's link, above but do not open it!!) I waited a few hours, and the problem seems to have gone, for now. I assumed the administrators had sorted it out. I'm glad someone has bought this up ...

MEMNOCH: Thanks for the advice. I will load that software at once

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

Same for me yesterday. But it only happened when I clicked 'new posts.' I could go to the home page or forum page or anything fine but as soon as I clicked new posts AVG brought up a thing saying I couldn't go any further because of a virus and if I attempted it I would die. Or something.

I get a script warning of a monkey-puzzle or something and am able to cancel out of it, then clear the cache and it doesn't seem to cause a problem after that.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I'm still getting it periodically. And I apologise I meant to go back in and remove the automatically added url link script from the link I posted so it wouldn't be clickable.

So if it's not too late don't click the "link" in my earlier post. And if a mod would care to remove it for me it would probably be safer!

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I couldn't work out how to disable the link, Vertigo, so I've removed it entirely just to be on the safe side. But I've posted a copy of it in the Staff Room for Dave and Brian to see, in case it's of help to them in tracking down the problem, so thanks for detailing it.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

Whoa, this just hit me. Couldn't get back into the site because the threat detected screen wouldn't let me -- was telling to come back tomorrow or go elsewhere (the cheek).

And then the big, scary red Avast pop up popped up to tell me it had caught something.

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

What is amusingly clear is that the writing types who populate the 'chrons' are anything but computer geeks. Most of us appear regard the computer just as something to write and read on. Even John Grisham confesses to being 'technological disabled' in one of his books -- the one about Italy.

Anyway, the problem seems to have gone, for now, even on the back click. Hopefully the culprit has scarpered, having taken a look at the 'chrons' moderators and realized how dangerously he's living around here -- and gone back to hacking into the pentagon ...

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

I'm getting this every time I try to log on using Chrome:

Warning: Something's Not Right Here!
Chronicles Network: Science Fiction & Fantasy contains content from lopolop.cz.cc, a site known to distribute malware. Your computer might catch a virus if you visit this site.
Google has found that malicious software may be installed onto your computer if you proceed. If you've visited this site in the past or you trust this site, it's possible that it has just recently been compromised by a hacker. You should not proceed. Why not try again tomorrow or go somewhere else?
We have already notified lopolop.cz.cc that we found malware on the site. For more about the problems found on lopolop.cz.cc, visit the Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page.

If you understand that visiting this site may harm your computer, proceed anyway.

Help improve detection of malware by sending additional data to Google about sites on which you see this warning. This data will be handled in accordance with the Safe Browsing privacy policies.

If I click on proceed anyway I get through, but it, does it everytime

Re: I think there might be a virus problem :(

Well I'm just glad that Avast is at least managing to block this thing, because it's highly unlikely that this is a false positive, both for the fact that it seems to be hitting everyone else here and for the fact that yesterday was the first time it's ever had a problem with the site....

I'm getting the lopolop.cz.cc Malware thing.
