I just thought with The Rainbow Guard, Renly's green armour and various other colourful references was just Martin's way of making the story more visually colorful. When I saw the Crying Game for the first time I had just thought "She's got big hands" when the main charachter was getting his hair done...a few other things in the movie made me wonder too, like the bar etc. A year or so later watching it on cable I thought "How could I have not seen it?" I had planned on re-reading the books when time so will see then for the subtle references.

The "blessing" of HBO is they can pretty much show whatever they like because it's premium cable and they are only restricted by the tastes of their audience. The fact that there was sex in the books probably made it an easier concept for HBO to get on board with. They didn't really have to invent anything, just tell what was already there.

| Re: Game of Thrones HBO - Disappointments, discuss. Sorry, Needle and TK (and Imp): I really should have put at least one in post#71. (Sometimes one, naked ellipsis is just not enough.)Though I suppose it does go to show that, as with the R+L business, we pick up visual clues more easily than (a string of) textual ones. |

| <3D~ | Re: Game of Thrones HBO - Disappointments, discuss. Eh?! Madness. Loras has such lovely hair. Re: The sex. I can't say that I've noticed an excessive amount. I was more screwing my nose up at the violence, although I watch (and write) some pretty gruesome stuff so maybe I'm just being a girl. I say let's have more sex. Sex for everyone. Make love not war and all that. |

| Comment Giver | Re: Game of Thrones HBO - Disappointments, discuss. Well I have no problem with the sex, I personally haven't felt that it was intrusive or over the top (except perhaps THE scene but that was more surprise of it coming out of nowhere.) I asked Mrs P. as a none Martin reader whether she thought excessive, and her response was: "What Sex? There isn't enough." |

| Re: Game of Thrones HBO - Disappointments, discuss. So much for info-humping. I'm beginning to wonder if at least one aspect of the infamous New York Times Preview/Review wasn't partly correct. (I'll leave others to work out which of her comments I'm thinking of. ![]() ) |

| Comment Giver | Re: Game of Thrones HBO - Disappointments, discuss. I actually missed it, I was looking away at the time (ahem), but Mrs P. said virtually what you just said, about are we meant to see it. It's not often that nudity goes that far.... I'm quite surprised that everyone seems to be concentrating on all the sex, the violence is pretty graphic in places and no one bats an eyelid. When the Mountain decapitated his horse it was quite a good effect (I hope they didn't actually do a horse ) but quite shocking... and no one seems to be mentioning that. |

| <3D~ | Re: Game of Thrones HBO - Disappointments, discuss. I actually did the gasp and cover my face thing at the horse beheading. And at the Jory bit! I did mention it in another thread. There's so many threads on this it's difficult to know what's been said where and who by! |

| Re: Game of Thrones HBO - Disappointments, discuss. People are easily provoked. It wasn't that long ago that some people were getting very heated about poor Lady. In fact, I'm surprised there isn't more fuss about the horse. Perhaps the L+R scene and, particularly, Theon's thingamajig were meant to head off criticism of that scene (puns not consciously intended, but what the hell). |
