The Matrix Self-aware Computers turn Humans into batteries, but non-stimulus kills Human minds, so the first Matrix: Utopia is created. Only the second Matrix: Life in the 1990's, allows them to thrive. In Zion the truth is known. Morpheus believes Neo is "The One".

We're talking movies where the entire world is fake and the real world is run by machines. Surely it wouldn't be a problem to wipe someone's memory?
Hmm I'd always gone under the assumption that the Matrix itself was built to ensure that there always was a human vs machine war - which was why the first failed. In a machine world the matrix shouldn't fail - and even if it did humans shouldn't be released but simply broken down again.

The way I saw it when the humans blacked out the sky the machines shut down all their administration and focused fully on the war effort - putting a single general machine in control. However as the war went on it became (or began as) self aware and also realised - once the war was over it would be deleted for it would have no use.

Hence the need for the matrix - a way it can control people, but also break and create Neo in order to allow an artificial war to continue. Also explains why Neo was required (and didn't in the film) to select people to restart a new Eden city - a way to ensure that another group of humans start up again - start a war and thus ensure that the military machine remains needed and thus not deleted.

Saphi (the young girl machine/program) should have (in my view) had a much bigger roll/impact in the concept of machines without purpose save to exist.

Huh, how about that. One horseman down, three to go, I guess.

I'm curious to see what the story's going to be as i thought that the trilogy pretty much closed off Neo's story and the war with the machines.

By the way, i-brian, it's good to see you back on the boards.

I don't see any merit in further Matrix films - and I think it has now been discounted.

I am still waiting for Star Wars 7, 8 and 9 (Lucas said when Episodes 1-3 came out that he envisaged a "trilogy of trilogies" but he later ruled himself out from directing the last 3)

Star Wars 7, 8 & 9 directed by The Wachowski Brothers. Mmm, I just drooled a little bit there.

Re: 2 new Matrix films coming?

I enjoyed the first matrix, provided I didn't think too hard. Because I had by then allready written Suspended Earth, which has a similar theme, and I was strict on myself in terms of making THAT consistent and workable, so when I watched the matrix, if I thought too hard about it I would find myself harsh about the bits I would have done different and the bits that simply didn't work.

Then they released 2 and 3 and they really didn't do a thing for me. It was like " Yay! We escaped! lets go back for no reason but to blow up some trucks! " it was pathetic.

So I wont be watching 4 and 5. ever.

Re: 2 new Matrix films coming?

I'm hoping that some lessons were learnt with the Matrix 2 and 3 that will mean that these may be passable movies.

Re: 2 new Matrix films coming?

I hope so. I loved those movies though IMO the 1st was the best from beginning to end. The narrative at the end was inspiring and ever more so when Neo took to the sky flying up, up & away!

I'm not really sure the latter two added much, let alone whether any more would be a good thing.
They added to the piles of money made by the studio, which is the main point of most sequels

I still haven't watched the third film, being so disappointed by the second. The original is a classic though.
