"It's only a game...." How pathetically sad this whole issue is. The sooner a load of clubs go bankrupt and out of business the better - that way, realistic (?capped) wages and transfer fees may actually return. And fans may actually go to the game to watch football. But I doubt it. Ah well, the six nations and proper rugby returns soon.

Apparently he's agreed a new 5 year contract to stay.

The issue raised in this thread has nothing to do with clubs, wages or transfer fees. It's to do with the thug and lunatic element amongst football supporters. To stand outside someone's home and threaten to kill them is disgraceful. They should be identified and prosecuted for the scum that they are - and I support Manchester City (where BTW we fans do actually go to the game, because the owners subsidise the ticket prices)

But that's all part of the 'beautiful game' apparently. And I totally agree with you, it defires belief that people could do that. And I support Brighton and Hove Albion... from my armchair, stopped going in the 80s when the violence was so bad.

And now he's signed a five year contract!!!!!!!!!

Death threats should be no surprise. There are plenty knuckleheads in the world.

Now I'm going to show my age - I remember when Mo Johnston was so much of a Celtic hero that one family even named their dog Mo. Then the unthinkable happened and Johnston went to Rangers. Guess what? Even the dog received death threats!!!!

Yes, but all from Manchester, Mr Kite.

But I have to say I support Rooney on this one. We either believe in a free market or we don't.

I can see that a transfer cap could be introduced (although isn't that price fixing) but a wage cap goes totally against freedom of labour to seek the best terms of employment (no matter how far removed from reality)

Re: Join City and you're dead

Is there a clause in the new contract whereby when Fergie says Rooney is injured, Rooney has to agree (whatever the truth of the matter)?

Re: Join City and you're dead

Again, the press turn out to be a joke.

So far I have seen the following quoted as being his weekly wage (in thousands), £150, £180, £200, £230 and £250.

All of these have been printed as facts. They just make it up as they go along.

Re: Join City and you're dead

Oh yes, I remember the Mo Johnstone fiasco. He should've stayed with us.

(Note not, "Should of," I actually speak english.)

It really makes you sick. I think the bigot brothers should play in England, but you're right, there are certain clubs who deserve bankruptcy, pity they're the least likely to go.
