Mudvayne's Lost and Found

Are there any other Mudvayne fans on this board?

I was happy to see that Mudvayne, a band that I had thought split up, put out a new album entitled Lost and Found.

While I didn't really like it during the first round of listening to the song line-up, I did, upon further chances, like some of the album's highpoints, such as "Happy?" and "IMN." The album design is better than their last album, The End to All Things to Come, but that doesn't say much considering how mediocre it was.

Musically, however, Lost and Found sounds a little stale too often. The appeal of Mudvayne's breakthrough album, L.D. 50, was the rich and ugly texturing of the songs like "Death Blooms." Much like Tool, such texturing seperates them from the run of the mill heavy metal that saturates the cd racks. Lost and Found has lost some of the texture, as if their style has frayed around the edges. For example, the opening track entitled "Determined"---probably the most uninspired track on the whole album---sounds far too similar in approach as Pantera's "Hostile". The last thing the music scene needs is yet another band playing dim-witted homage to Pantera. Thankfully, the album has backed a little bit off from the "main stream" heavy metal sound that was showcased in The End of All Things to Come.

Overall, I would give the newest Mudvayne effort a B- because it does have a few highlights that will sneak themselves back into my stereo from time to time.

Your thoughts?

I've heard "Happy" and think it's alright. It certainly isn't as good as some of their earlier work, although I never was too big of a fan. My favorite song by them is definitely "Dig" ...... maybe they should go back to all the makeup/costumes to start rocking out again, hehe.

Heh, they have certainly back away from the make-up approach a little.....and all the members have gained a bit of weight since "Dig."
