Non-fiction writing

As I write non-fiction as well as fiction, I was wondering if anyone else here does any non-fiction writing or is interested in it?

Often been interested - but never the time!

What sort of non-fiction are you yourself actually writing, if you don't mind my asking?

Re:Non-fiction writing

Right now I am trying to figure out a way to write something about movies. I don't see it as exhaustive or academic, but something more personal. A sort of meditation about growing up in southern California and not being a part of movie-making but being surrounded by it to the point of being unable to escape from it.

I've got a whole list of things I'd like to write about, but I did so much non-fiction writing while I was in school that I had to take a break from it once I graduated. I love it, and it is much easier for me than fiction writing, but enough was enough for a while. So I'm really just getting back into the non-fiction side of writing after a good year away from the actual work of it - although I've been making lists and doing reading for when the time came to have another go at it.

One thing I would really like to have a go at is writing a regular column of some sort. Have to find a market for it, though. I'd thought about my local weekly, but they probably wouldn't have me - I am not nearly as conservative as the editorial policy of the paper. So, the search goes on.

Re:Non-fiction writing

Well, if you'd like to practice writing a monthly column then you're welcome to do so from here.

Simply choose the category you think is most suitable and post there - or else if you'd like your own section somewhere that ask me about that. I'd be happy to help. If you wanted to try it out online, that is.

Re:Non-fiction writing

Those absolutely count, scifimoth.

And Brian, thanks. I may very well take you up on that.

No problems - I wouldn't offer if I didn't mean it. Certainly, if anyone else wanted to do similar they are welcome to ask about it.
