| Hi Folks Hello everybody! I've been lurking around here for a while, mainly reading the George R R Martin board - all the buzz about the upcoming Game of Thrones TV series has got me re-reading the Song of Ice and Fire series right now, but I'm into a wide range of other SF and fantasy, written and otherwise and I've dabbled in writing a bit myself in the past, so I could well be popping up in other parts of the forum. And...that's about it for now. |

| At the end of reality | Re: Hi Folks Well, if you want to pop into another forum, Mag, try our monthly writing challenge. There's still a couple days left to put in an entry. http://www.sffchronicles.co.uk/forum...irst-post.html And stop by the Asylum sometime for a spot of tea or what have you. It's a fine place to relax and meet new friends, and don't worry about the giant spider around there, she only wants pringles. |

| resident pedantissimo | Re: Hi Folks Wonder what the "Mag"'s short for? Magnetic, Magnanimous, Magnificent? Oh well, as long as it brings my tea, I suppose I can't complain. Welcome in. If you've been lurking a while, you won't need the guided tour, and only very minor warnings; the addiction effect is considerably enhanced by getting involved, and the more threads you post in, the weaker grows the will to pull out and sleep, or whatever. Do put a note on your computer explaining to everyone you are alive, or they're likely to take you out and bury you and, worse still, log you off and turn off the computer. If you get the impression that some of the residents are a little strange, you aren't wrong, but just wait until you meet some of the others. If you have any affection for your sanity, avoid bringing it with you; it will only be unhappy here. They forgot to print any 'get out of jail free' cards, so you need to roll a double six to get out; unfortunately the dice are tetrahedral. So, make the most of it; reality was never like this. |

| Truth. Order. Moderation. | Re: Hi Folks Magic? Magnolia? Magisterial? Magdalen? (The latter is nothing to get maudlin over...) Hello and Welcome, Mag. Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery, I shall invite you to join in the wonder that is Aspiring Writers and the Cultural Event of the 21st Century... well, I would if Karn hadn't beaten me to it. The Writing Challenge. 75 words. SFF genre. Seven Deadly Sins. Do it. Or be forever curse... contri... ashame... a tiny, tiny bit regretful** at a missed opportunity which will never, ever come your way again, at least not in this form since October is another month and another theme and this is your last chance and what are you doing reading this when you could be writing the perfect story? ** or even a magdalen... |

| Re: Hi Folks Hello to all of you too and thanks for the warm welcome! Mag the Mighty is a minor character from the George R R Martin books I was blathering about above - a hairy giant from Up North, which is strangely fitting in my case...if not as entertaining as some of the possible alternatives (should have said it was short for Magnolia) ![]() I'll try to remember to leave my sanity at the door as per the above advice... And that 75 words challenge sounds like an offer I can't refuse. |

| Truth. Order. Moderation. | Re: Hi Folks We noticed the Challenge had been valiantly and magnificently accepted. Fortunately, it isn't the kind that involves gloves being whipped across faces or gauntlets being thrown to the ground, so acceptance over, that's it, until the voting starts in 2 days time, which is when the pain begins... |
