Books like...

Well, I guess this might have been asked somewhere before on the Chron site but I shall start. I know it sounds corny but I just watched the movie Inception with Leo DiCrappio and thought what an excellent movie it was. I just loved everything about it, the complexity, the believability and the characters (that is my kind of story). Are there any books out there that have that sort of style, theme etc. This is not about the movie Inception you can ask any question you want, mine is about Inception yours can be about anything...

Re: Books like...

So....is this supposed to be like a game thread then?

I could move it to the lounge as I think it's an interesting idea...

I thought it reminded me of PKD when i was seeing the film.

The dreams was too controlled, hollywood easy for the audience. But there are PKD stories, novels with dream like quality, wierd worlds like that.

He must be the most filmed author! And Im guessing the films are better than the books! (Certainly with Bladerunner antway)

None of his films are better !

Bladerunner has Harrison Ford and cool visuals but its a shallow version of a mid level PKD story. All the people who like the film before the book are film fan and PKD reader later and never the other way.

Anyway Inception looks like him but it is stricly Hollywood SF. Funny when they do a good SF film its not an adaptation.

.
Well I disagree with such hard and fast rules Conn! I saw the film ages before I read the book, and when I did read the book I was unimpressed! The film is memorable, the book less so.

Im the same in that i saw the film ages ago and was unimpressed. By hollywood SF standards it was good but that doesnt say much.

I read the book afterwards, of course you dont like any PKD except the one Police man book, so its understandable with your taste you didnt like the book.
