OK just how can the PD defend the actions of these officers? Standing on her oxygen hose to get her to comply? Words fail me.

Re: Don't taze my Granny

I would imagine their argument would be simple:
"The officers found a patient, off her meds, wielding a knife. Training and official policy dictates warnings then a tazer. Officers are not instructed to manually disarm suspects as this leads to high risk of injury."

I wonder just how differently people would have reacted to this story if it was a firearm instead of a knife...

Re: Don't taze my Granny

It reminds me of another, 'Helpless old lady,' who attempted to drive off, attacked the officer, gave him dog's abuse and ignored three warnings before being tazed.

There are faults on both sides, but some people won't accept that the law applies to them too.

In the car park, I saw many helpless old ladies and disabled drivers using it for blackmail.

I don’t know how a call for paramedics resulted in a call of 10 officers showing up at the home of this woman, but that is exactly what happened.
That just reeks of a half-told story. A simple 911 call for medical help wouldn't result in ten cops showing up. It just wouldn't. What the officers did once there is another matter, but I have to suspect that the story Tinsley has put forward is, to say the least, a little skewed.

Re: Don't taze my Granny

Assuming the officers line is true, 'the woman was threatening to overdose and they used the Taser because she pulled a knife on the officers' I wonder how the media would have reacted if the police had said 'Fine carry on then' and left her?

Situations like this maust be very difficult to call.
