Re: What We're Watching. Lofwyr - It's funny you should mention Dexter, which I love (the 4th season was exceptionally brilliant I thought), cause there's a common link, despite the difference in networks. It was James Manos jr who (unless I'm mistakn) so brilliantly adapted Dexter to the screen. I also noticed James Manos jr listed as a producer of Sopranos and he wrote an episide in the first season. So far I'm loving Sopranos. There are episodes akin to the best of Oz or Dexter, where practically every single scene leaves you thinking, "that was great stuff". I'm curious to see if I agree on this nose-dive in the 5th (I'm still in the 2nd), but I know some fans had a problem with the series finale as well (an episode of Family Guy once mentioned the abrupt fade-to-black ending). I don't anticipate having a problem with that though, as long as series maintains its, albeit extremely high, standards. Really want to see Deadwood. Liked what little I saw of that.

Re: What We're Watching. The current Toy Story was pretty good. Was really watching octopi, tarpin, puffers, sea cucumbers, sea turtles, angels, parrots, cowfish, jacks, squirrel fish, barracuda, corals, sponges, lobsters, shrimp, crabs, groupers, sergeant majors, other colourful fish unspecified, urchins, anemones and wrecks... Tried to find kraken. Drowned God, MIA.

Re: What We're Watching. I just saw Inception last Friday. I'm a big DeCaprio fan, going back to his amazing perferomance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I won't say much about the movie for fear of spoiling it, so in very general terms, I was glad I saw it, but it was perhaps the most confusing movie I have ever seen. To make matters worse, some of the actors mumbled really badly at points, which made the convoluted plot even harder to follow. I guess I'll have to watch it again when it's released on DVD and turn English subtitles on.

Re: What We're Watching. The most confusing movie I ever saw was Eraserhead. By some distance too. I am curious about Inception though, more so now that the clever Imp has lent his approval ![]() I recently finished the second season of Sopranos. Truly, truly brilliant. If it keeps this up, then I will thoroughly agree with imp that it is one of the very best ever made. What a season finale...and the humour just keeps getting better. I'll be taking a hiatus from Sopranos for a bit though to watch the last season of the Shield (which is not exactly the easiest show to jump back into). I think I'll be watching Moon tonight (a British sci-fi flick from last year), which I've heard good things about.

Re: What We're Watching. If it's the same Moon I'm thinking about then..... G.R.R.M short story "The second kind of loneliness" has some similarities. Or rather, Moon has similarities to the short story.

Re: What We're Watching. I don't know about GRRM's story (and wouldn't say if I did for fear of giving away certain things) but the Moon I just saw was quite excellent. Not sure if it would be to everyone's tastes, but I certainly thought highly of it - and Sam Rockwell, who was great.

Re: What We're Watching. And all that talk of Moon brings to mind Moonstruck, which starred nicholas Cage (along with Cher). Cage just happens to be in the Sorcerer's Apprentice, which, in my quest to see every mediocre movie released in 2010, I saw today. I guess it was a bit better than mediocre, it was decent, but very muchsimplistic and predictable. Salt is on the table next week. At least I'll be able to see Jolie's collagen filled lips

| Keep Moving Forward! | Re: What We're Watching. I missed it, only just now saw it. Seeing as though it's survived this long, I'll let it stand for now, but make sure to mix in a bit of GRRM talk now and then or it might disappear. And, seriously, guys, there's a great big forum out there waiting to be explored! You're all like Lysa Arryn in here, locked away and refusing to acknowledge anything happening outside the Eyrie... |

Re: What We're Watching. Cheers Cul - though I'm surprised you only just spotted it! I will, indeed, try to mix in some GRRM relevance at every opportunity. Except now, where I'll just say, "Not in front of the baby!" I won't get a nipple out though

Re: What We're Watching. Some new shows just premiered over the past few days. I'm really sxcited about two of them so far Boardwalk Empire- Set in Atlantic City, 1920, the story is about "Nucky" Thompson, the totally corrupt town treasurer. Martin Scorcese had a major role in the pilot, and one of the writers from The Sopranos is on board. The pilot was great. Wonderful costumes, background (scenery) detail, writing, acting, etc. If you get HBO you can catch it on demand. Airs Sunday nights at 9 eastern. The Event was on NBC at 9 EST last night. I found it a bit confusing and need to watch it again, but the story is really compelling and they do a great job of creating tension and maintaining it. I'd recommend it based on what I saw last night. Chase was "meh" I got bored after a few minutes. I still need to watch Haven, based on a STephen King novel . It aired on Syfy channel last Friday Criminal Minds begins it's new season this Weds. It's a great show.

And In my opinion, with the exception of the second to last season, Sopranos is the best show HBO has ever produced. | |
