It just doesn't quite fit. Only just, though. Maybe in July...

The Goblin and the Pie, perhaps?

I'll keep that one for August.

I have reservations about the story, now. I'm glad I didn't post it yet...

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- April, May, & June

I'm still considering whether to enter the one I've just written. It's the middle of the night, I'm tired, and perhaps my judgement isn't at its best.

But I'm flying out in four hours, and won't be able to post anything for the next seven days.

Hmm.

But you'll have plenty of time after that, Seph. Don't make a rash decision...

Whoops. If only I had read your post two minutes ago, Cul. D'oh!

Oh well. I may live to regret it, but there we go.

Fantastic entries so far, this month. The usual suspects have dazzled us again, as have others. I love every story, so far!

(Not counting my own, that is. :S)

Anyway, I'll see you all next week. Can't wait to see what other gems have appeared in the thread by then.

Adiosk, as Leish would say.

Ok, I'm going to buck my usual trend and make it onto the first page this time--before I change my mind!

I don't know if it's wise to follow Sephiroth, but maybe it's a good sign that this story was my 75th post.

Mouse's is good, indeed! Should we start taking bets on how much more darkly humorous and equally unrepentant her entries get in coming months? I've got 10p on her ending up as a script editor for Dexter by September...

And worry not, TEIN, the laptop survived - although a hand-bound notebook from Florence, sadly, did not.
You could always give it whirl on the roundabout for a spin dry

Perhaps you could ask Florence if she would buy you another one...

Eek. So many good entries already. How is it the bar is being set higher and higher each month??

A high bar? Could it be something to do with the current campaign against low alcohol prices...?

*cough*

The impact of the high quality of entries on my chances of winning is moot at the moment: I haven't had the slightest suggestion of a hint as to what to write yet.

Strewth, the entries are sooo good! I didn't have an idea, until about 4 minutes ago, when I was reading them all again, and then something occured to me; all I need to do now, is turn the idea into 75 words - where's the damn thesauraus when I need it?

Hopefully, the raising of the standard is pushing us all to raise our game, making the competition useful as well as fun!

Hearty congratulations for the May competition Seph, I knew it was the winner as soon as I read it.

Already we have some wonderful entries!

Seph, I don't think you made a rash decision on your posting; it's quite a tasty piece. It made me think of "Childhood's End" for some reason, though you might have gone for a more metaphysical stance in your pieces.

And Dutyzebra - My mom and one of my friends were both born either prematurely or with severe problems and so had to live for several months in incubators, I guess it's fortunate for them that they survived... Great piece.
