I don't want to jinx it, but I have to agree. I almost fell asleep during extra time.

(I really did. Ask Leisha -- if she hadn't said, "Oh, is it penalties?" as the first penalty was being taken, I'd probably have missed the shootout.)

Well, it wasn't a bad game, in the end, although it wasn't great, either.

But it was spot on my prediction of 1-0 Spain, so that'll do me.

Then penalties. Japan lost.

It may have been a dream though.

Well, much as I preferred it when it was sorted by the second column, that is a sight for sore eyes.

It may be as close as I get, though. The eight games of the round of 16 are over, but it's only the halfway point of the knockout stages.

Re the English team. there was some mention of Beckham over there getting assaulted by a fan. was he there to play? if so maybe england would have done better flogging a dead horse.

Beckham may have been the team mascot (although he'll have a grander job title than that).

He was also in South Africa to support England's bid for World Cup 2018; he handed over a huge tome in support of this at some public event or other.
