Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp Behrami had taken one swing at the first Chilean, and then two, one head high, at the second. Short of begging the referee to send him off, it's hard to see what more he could have done. What Behrami should have done is stumble under the tackles from behind. (Not dive - late on in the match, a Chilean was yellow carded for simulation - but simply do enough to let the referee know he was being fouled; or he could have asked the referee for the free kick: this tactic worked on other occasions in this match. Either way, the result would have been a free kick in his favour, not a sending off.) The Chilean goal looked off-side, but I can't feel that sorry for a Swiss team so determined to bore their way to the last sixteen. (And I'd forgotten that 1-0 was my prediction: I'd convinced myself it was 2-1 and was hoping for another goal from each team. )

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp And another average two-pointer of a day for me. Sigh. If only Spain had had their shooting boots on...my four-nil scoreline would probably have been woefully short.

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp I think 6 or 7 of us picked 2-0 to Spain (which seemed unlikely with 40 mins to play). A good day for me with only my second 4 pointer, but both in recent games. Time for some inappropriate boasting then - ahahaha! Now I have zeroed in on results, I'm coming for you Cul/Einlanzer/Sephiroth/Ursa (and probably many more...)

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp I simply do not know how Spain didn't score more than two goals. While watching, I took it for granted that my 2-0 prediction would look extremely silly. By the way, although the Hondurans weren't up to much and had formidable opponents (give or take Spain's ability to score from all their chances), they often passed the ball with an assurance rarely matched by England the other day (against Algeria, that is). Bitter food for thought.

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp Don't forget that 16 points are up for grabs in each of the next few days. I'm beginning to regret my cynicism about the Mexico-Uruguay game. Mexico may not fancy meeting Argentina in the next round, which they almost certainly would if they draw today's game, and so may make a fight of it.
