Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp What a good first half by N.Korea - a textbook example of how to play a defensive formation without being static and boring. I bet that Dunga's having a few choice words with his team in the half-time dressing-room...

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp When I "forecast" Brazil winning 4-1, I was most concerned about the 1 in that scoreline; at the moment, it seems far more likely to be there at the end than the 4. And yes, Pyan: quality defending from the North Koreans. Where I fear for them is in the game's location: at altitude. There must be a significant chance that they're going to run out of steam; as in many sports, the many defending are likely to be expending more effort than the smaller number of attackers involved in any given attack.

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp Very true Ursa - but however this pans out I don't see Brazil scoring 4. Mainly because I picked them to. And they've just scored as I write...3 more please. And I was thinking I'd rather see N. Korea score just to see their reaction.

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp While Brazil had most of the play, and so thoroughly deserved their win, the goal that made the difference looked a lot like a fluke**. If North Korea played as they did tonight against most good teams, they would keep their opponent's goal tally low; so while Brazil were not at their best, I don't think they should be ruled out of the race of a place in the final. ** - Having said that, a team can only score flukes like that by being in their opponent's area with enough numbers to pull the goalie away from the near post.

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp To use a football analogy: Games played (shots at goal): 14 Results predicted (shots on target): 7 Scorelines predicted (goals): 0 Anyone else care to compare (not you einlanzer, I'm too embarassed that in one day you're just two points behind me ![]()

Shots on goal: 14 Shots on target: 7 Goals: 2 Actually, do goals count in shots on target? | |

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp I think goals are generally included in the 'on target' stat, but now that you mention it, I'm actually not sure. I've assumed so.* *excepting, of course, that I haven't actually got a 'goal' yet... Last edited by No One; 16th June 2010 at 12:52 AM. Reason: addition

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp I've always found that a bit stupid, e.g. Partick Thistle 6 - 0 Rangers. Surely, shots on target should be; Partick Thistle = 6 Rangers = 0 'On target,' means you hit your mark, the back of the net. 'Off target,' means you bend it like Beckham and whack it into row K. Anything else is moronic.

Re: FIFA WC Tipping comp Isn't a shot that would have gone in but for the goalkeeper a shot on target? Also, I somehow picked NZ v Slovakia! The comeback has begun! Also also, great work North Korea.
