Re: Survivors cancelled!!

Lets face it, there was too many weak episodes and poor cliched plotting.

It is a shame because the idea had merit and many of the charcters were quite good. but the execution was lacking.

Re: Survivors cancelled!!

The only problem is that it'll be replaced by more lowest-common-denominator TV.

That's what I hate about the BBC, while you don't have to watch dross, you're a criminal if you don't pay for it.

Re: Survivors cancelled!!

It's the reason I stock a library of quality DVD series, movies etc...as most things on free to air TV are crap. SBS (ethnic station) and ABC (Australian govt. station) do have some excellent docos and mini series etc.. but otherwise it's the DVDs for me.

Then of course there's my extensive library of books and music etc.. so luckily I'm never bored plus the pod casts of various travel and literary radio programs we have here.

And of course wandering the bookshops and cafes of my beloved City (Melbourne) on weekends, reading, listening to music etc.....

Re: Survivors cancelled!!

This didn't come out as a surprise. But let me just say it's not first time when they cancel a survival series that speaks against corporate or government policies. And if I'm really honest, I was surprised that they even aired the second series after the swine-flue fiasco.

Re: Survivors cancelled!!

Can we write them (the BBC) and try to influence them?

Re: Survivors cancelled!!

I used this

I am extremely disappointed and quite frankly at a loss to understand the thinking behind the cancellation of this superbly written and acted program. One of the reasons that majority of us are more than happy to pay the license fee, is because of the BBC's extraordinary ability to produce high quality drama which, this show is. Change your mind.

Maybe that is true, but I liked it.

Exactly, don't you ever catch Eastenders or Coronation Street, and they win awards for their interminable drivel. This series had great potential and left many unanswered questions. It also only followed them for a few weeks; what happened in the following years? And the characters were very well drawn. They were actually believable and behaved like real stupid people would behave in real life.

And it doesn't get replaced with new drama, it gets replaced with more reality TV instead - Have you seen "The Running Man" Arnie film/ novella by Stephen King as Richard Bachman.

We could, but it will make no difference because the people who make the decisions are so far removed from the creative process that they don't understand or even give a damn. They are accountants interested in viewing figures and people want "Big Brother", "Jeremy Kyle", "Gladiators" and "Wife Swap" and "The Worlds Best Videoed Police Car Chases". It is our fault, because if we didn't watch these things they wouldn't show them.

It's like "Fahrenheit 451" and "The Running Man" have come true!

The idea of the BBC is surely that it since it doesn't need advertising revenue, it doesn't need to compete and can instead produce quality broadcasting. This is not happening and why I am beginning to object to having to pay a license fee.

Re: Survivors cancelled!!

Pitty. I am sad. I really hoped i will see third season. SUrvivors was a very reasonable postapocalyptic series, no run zombie run illogical crap... but this was probably a reason of cancellation....too boring for some blood hungry watchers. PITTY!!!

Unhappy Re: Survivors cancelled!!

So sad, another example of a great series cancel too early. So much potential wasted.
