Re: Writing Challenge Questions, Answers, Comments -- (Formerly: Proposed Competition

We have 39 entries and counting, with more than a week to go. It does seem like there won't be a need to make any significant changes next time. Even if we have a big drop off, that might still mean plenty of entries.

Also, I imagine that the level of participation will depend on how many of us find ourselves inspired by next month's theme. (Which I am dying to know. I hope the winner picks one early in the first week of May.)

Haha. The suspense is about killing me as well, TE. My participation next month will lean extremely heavily on the theme.

I highly doubt I could turn out a decent horror story, for example.

But then you didn't think you could write such a short story, either. Whatever it turns out to be, at least give it a try. You might surprise yourself again.

Part of the idea is to challenge ourselves, not just to meet the given challenge.

Re: Writing Challenge Questions, Answers, Comments -- (Formerly: Proposed Competition

Ooh, boy. Back in my elementary school days I not only arose to such a challenge easily, I facilitated it, much to the anguish of my less-than-enthusiastic peers. (Might have also sparked some jealousy among them against me-week after week I would get the gold stars for perfect spelling tests while few of them had any.)

I should be able to pull something out-I have my dear, dear genetic mutation, the akunta, in reserve for such a situation.

Did we decide on the number of votes? I think with such a high number of entries - and thus votes, one would assume - one vote each is sufficient to determine a winner. I know the arguments for two or more were for different reasons, but I know a few people were pro-one vote. Should we do a quick poll, maybe?

How about the (possibly) complex method of each person selecting they top 3 or 5 in order and then adding up points based on how people ranked them?

I think we already rejected that one as far too complicated.

On the subject of one vote or two, a poll sounds like a good idea, Cul, but I don't know what you mean by a quick poll. A week sounds about right to me. If we reach a decision by the 23rd or 24th, that should still give you time to set up the real voting early on the 27th (in England, not the Antipodes) shouldn't it?

Do want to set one up, since I've never done it? Could we start a poll in this thread, or does it have to be in a new one?

Re: Writing Challenge Questions, Answers, Comments -- (Formerly: Proposed Competition

The key word is "Challenge", imo, Karn. I approach it as a personal thing I have to deal with if I'm to call myself .... well, anything really, but I often say "writer" when asked

I suppose I'm too lazy to set challenges for myself, that's why I always found the word and story games here so personally productive, though many of those games seem sadly a little less active than once they were - though to be fair I seem to have considerably less time to engage in them all these days for various reasons.

That's kinda why I couldn't resist participating this month and why I will probably feel similarly next month, whatever the subject may be. No expectation, just a little work-out for the little grey cells.

Writing Challenge Voting Poll

Alright, through a little bit of mod trickery, I've added a poll about the voting to this thread. Have at it! Closes in seven days.

re: Writing Challenge Comments, Questions, Answers

Thank you!

And through another bit of mod trickery I've changed the title of this thread, so people will see the thread and know what the poll is about.
