It seems way too simple, but the only thing coming to mind is coming from or being on her way to hanging Merret Frey?

That was my only thought, as well, though it would be coming from the hanging, and that happened at the end of aSoS, which would seem to make the timeline way out. She must have been doing something else, but I have no idea what.

Yes, it would have to be coming from the hanging, which kind of makes me think that it can't be the right answer, but I can' even begin to come up with anything else.

I can't remember what she was up to. She was out and about killing Lannisters, from memory, but I can't remember any Lannister being offed in Fairmarket.

I knew this would be tough. I just ran across it myself. I've been toying with theories about Briennes last word, and I think this could have something to do with it.

This is infuriating me. When I get home I'm going to have to pour over the end of aFfC and work it out.

I am not having a good day. This is another thing that I can only half-remember. It's rather subtle, and I didn't see it on my first readthrough. Bah! I don't know if I can find it again.

The only significant mention of Fairmarket I can find is in a Jaime chapter toward the end of aFfC, where Edwyn Frey tells Jaime that Ser Ryman Frey, his father and heir to the Twins, was hung by Dondarrion, Thoros, '...or this woman Stoneheart' two leagues south of Fairmarket.

I don't see how this affects Brienne's last word, though, so probably wrong...

You are right, as far as the trivia question goes.

It is the same time line, roughly. Brienne was hung near fairmarket, and so were the Freys, at near the same time. So you win the head and shoulders! Or maybe you would like the Wolf Chow.

So, I'm probably grasping at straws, but it seems very little will save Brienne. I think that if someone backed up her story about Jaime it might well save her. The Freys were in a position to verify everything she said. So what could the word be...Riders or Freys...who knows. I just thought that since the two corresponded with one another that they could be connected.
