Good morning

It's been a while since I visited.

Hope everything is good Mr Clanny

Just wondered if there is anymore news on the release date?

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

She has finished the final editing of chapter set 12, as of last week. Two chapter sets (a chapter set is one big chapter, followed by two smaller sub-chapters, followed by a triplet of paragraphs on one page at the end of the chapter set) left to polish, and the manuscript goes to the publisher. When it goes to the publisher, then we will get a publication date, likely in the fall of 2011. She said (just in the last couple of days) on her website that with Christmas and getting her taxes done (she and her husband bite the bullet and do them in January each year) the editing has slowed a bit, but she's been working on the final polish for several months. It won't be too much longer now. Usually 6-9 months once the draft is turned in.

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

Just posted on Janny Wurts and Don Maitz Official Webpages

"Into the final lap; I've keyed in the rough, first pass changes to the last two chapter sets; now to mill them fine.

Not too much longer..."

oooooooo, the anticipation!

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

Just today she mentioned that she has 139 pages to go through with the final edits (going at a rate of about 30 pages a day).

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

The final changes for the penultimate chapter set (13, 13a and 13b) are done and in proofing. She reports on Janny Wurts and Don Maitz Official Webpages as of the end of the day yesterday that she has 48 pages left of final edits on the last chapter set. Then, she keys them in, sends the chapter to her proof readers, and then to her editor. Hopefully, the manuscript will be in Harper Collins' hands within a couple of weeks.

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

Get ready for it: announcement of submission of the final draft of Initiate's Trial to publisher is imminent, as the final chapter set has had the final author edits, and is currently in the hands of proof readers...

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

THE FINAL DRAFT MANUSCRIPT WAS SUBMITTED TO HARPER COLLINS LONDON YESTERDAY!!!

We should get a publication date soon, usually about nine months from date of submission (possibly late October, early November, 2011???)

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

Yes, this was a longer-than-usual wait between books (about 4 years), but apparently the first book in a story arc is particularly difficult in terms of getting the continuities straight, especially in as sprawling an epic as this one. The way that Janny writes though makes for few or no edits once it is submitted. The manuscript was drafted, test read, pared down painstakingly over several months in author edits (since late summer, 2010), proofed by more test readers, and then read over carefully in full one final time by Janny herself before submission. Once she submits, it really is just a matter of time.

I would note that she has produced three volumes in this series in the same amount of time that another epic fantasy author of note has been struggling to write just one (6 years and counting, George).

Awesome.

Now what was the story about, again?

And what does Dek think of this? Time to reunite the 4 horsemen.

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

The release date will give me plenty of time to complete my re-read of the entire series (I am currently on Grand Conspiracy) before it comes out. Of course, it has been almost a year since I started the re-read (probably about the time I last logged onto this website), but I keep on getting distracted by other things (namely my two year old son).

Re: INITIATE'S TRIAL: Updates on Release

I just reread Stormed Fortress, prompted by your earlier posts in this thread Clannie, and now I have to wait till October. In reality I will have to wait longer as I will probably wait till the TP release (hardbacks annoy me)
