Star Wars in 3D

I saw this on the main page. Interesting. I suppose that it was only a matter of time before this came out in 3D. I wonder how many tickets this would sell. I for one would be up for seeing it again on the big screen. I wonder what changes will be made this time?

What's this, you say? Star Wars in 3D?
...I need to get caught up on my Star Wars...

This could be good, as long as they don't throw in a load of extra special effects like they did for the Special Editions.

I don't mind new movies being 3D, but leave the classics alone. It's like colorizing a black-and-white movie - it'll never look quite right. Let it stand on its own as a symbol of its time.

Re: Star Wars in 3D

I don't even like it when new movies are 3D, Mele. The second Avatar opened with that drop of water floating in midair, my eyes went nuts trying to focus on it. Then when the camera finally focused on the water drop, I wanted to focus on the guy in the background again. Halfway through the movie I got up to walk around and give my eyes a break. I can't understand how something that seems so visually unnatural to me is hailed as "realistic" by others. I agree that it's just like the colorization campaign.

And yeah, I know this is a science fiction forum, but I could think of a hundred movies I'd rather see re-released than Star Wars... I've already seen two versions of it in theaters and I wasn't even born when it came out the first time.

You have to watch out for James Cameron next time. He's a master at the jedi eye trick.

Re: Star Wars in 3D

I see that the Blu-Ray version of the Star Wars Saga has been announced. Deleted scenes included, which is pretty cool news. I would imagine that it would be remastered in order to make the most of the Blu-Ray's image quality. I wonder if there will be any further "tweaks"?

With advances in technology A 3D version of the saga can't be that far away now.

Re: Star Wars in 3D

I don't think I can sum up my feelings any better than Simon Pegg did in his twitter feed.

Quote:
"Watching TPM (The Phantom Menace) in 3D would be like the car actually crashing into your face as opposed to just unfolding before your eyes,"
Though I concede that other opinions are available.

On the whole, I'm not a fan of the 3D bandwagon. I've yet to see a movie where the 3D was worth having the annoying glasses on my face and the 30% colour loss, Avatar included.

But hey, who knows. Maybe Lucas will be the guy to convince me.

Re: Star Wars in 3D

I enjoyed the PT, it wasn't my Star Wars but it was still enjoyable. I'm definately looking forward to this and Blu-Ray. Besides, Lucas needs to replenish the money that he gave away and this is a great way to do it.

Star Wars at the cinema again, that's worth a lot in my book.

Re: Star Wars in 3D

I saw Clash of the Titans in 3D and it gave me a headache. It was not supposed to be filmed that way but they threw it together like that at the last minute and it showed. They have been working on this for some time now, and I think the wait is going to be very rewarding. One thing Lucasfilm can do for sure is put out some very pleasing eye candy on the screen. As for the story and how it's told with the effects, well, eveyone has different opinions. I enjoy all six films and it will be a real treat to see all those incredible scenes in 3D. Podrace, Coruscant chase, trench run, asteriod chase, speeder bike chase to name a few. 3D or not, I am looking forward to seeing them on the big screen again with my boy who wasn't old enough the first time (or second).

Those are very good points. I tend to forget that there's a whole generation who've never seen the OT on the big screen. In fact, there's probably a lot of young fans who've never seen Phantom Menace or AOTC on the big screen either.

I'll certainly check out New Hope, Empire and Jedi, 3D or not.

Re: Star Wars in 3D

I will definitely be in the audience for a 3D version of Star Wars. Do you think they will start with 1/4 or 1/1?

I can't come up with the rename for "Star Wars" 1/4.

I'm sorry but at my age Star Wars will always be Star Wars never A New Hope.
