Hello

Hi,

I live in Cambridgeshire (St Neots), I'm 52 and have been an avid SF reader since discovering a book in my sisters bookcase when I was about 10 - I'm trying to track it down again (more on that when I find the right area)

Favourite authors are;

Asimov, Clarke, Niven (Pournelle, separate and together), E E Doc Smith, Heinlein, Gordon R. Dickson....

Looking forward to exploring the forum.

Regards

Bill.

Re: Hello

Hello Bill and welcome. Greetings from Australia. I guess where you are its probably wise to be inside and warm. I hear it is extremely cold there at the moment.
We alternatively are sweltering with our fourth day above 30c coming up and 41 predicted for tomorrow.
Hope to hear more from you.

Re: Hello

Dangerous things, those bookcases. Chock full of little (or not so little), deadly traps that suck up your spare time like nothing else this side of governmental paperwork. In some cases, the contents of those traps kind of read like governmental paperwork, but that's a different gripe for some other forum.....

There are a few considerations before you wander off (I'll let others advise about where NOT to wander!). You'll find that you're somewhat safer from the aforementioned traps, as all of your spare time will now be deposited here, instead! I see you've already passed thru security (Freda) and had your Pringles appropriated (it's best to just give them to her, really), and been warned about sanity, or the rather pervasive lack thereof that permeates this demesne. Along with lost time, you can donate your bed to your favorite charity (sleep being a nonexistent concept in this culture), and you should expect marked changes in personal hygiene (cro-magnon might be an apt comparison) and a general lack of "social" time (but you have us, of course, what more do you need?).

There. That's put paid, and naught remains but to welcome you warmly to The Chrons, and may many happy hours here be yours!

Grim

Re: Hello

Well, hello there! (holds out two small right hands to be shaken). Welcome to the hotbed of diversity. You will adapt in time (think of it as evolution in action).

*Glances through the list* Ah, no Forward or Sheffield – you'd probably find they fitted in your general pattern. 'd suggest Baxter, but I notice you haven't listed Clarke, who you must have attempted…

But why bother? Your 'to be read' pile will grow, as suggestions from here clash with reading time. Rare are those who even break even (and think how much money that can save you).

Yes, you are doomed to eternally wander these book-strewn corridors untill the end, the nighness of which one of our more single-minded members has been reminding us for some time now (actually the single minded members are generally easier to communicate with than the multiple minded, or any of the hive minds. Me? Oh, relatively unified recently; the lack of comprehension has other origins.)

Welcome in. It's not as bad here as it might seem at first glance (for a given value of 'glance').

Enjoy.

In my experiance, the best (though not the only) areas in which to look for a bookcase are in the general vicinity of walls. In this case (), try looking near the walls of your sister's home.

Happy hunting.

Oh, and Welcome to the Chrons. Bill_GK!

Re: Hello

You mean bookcases are supposed to be by the walls, Ursa? Well, that explains why I keep tripping over mine....

*turns and trips over a box with a small sign which reads "Kindly leave your sanity at the door and collect it on your way out"*

Chrispy! Your box is in the way again!

Welcome Bill!
