Re: SF Masterwork series continued...

In case anyone's interested, all the new SF Masterworks editions are available in Waterstones and being promoted in the 3 for 2 offer.

I was sorely tempted myself but I just don't have the money...

These are the titles included (I think it's complete):

Babel-17 by Samuel R. Delany
Lord of Light by Robert Zelazny
I Am Legend by Richard Matheson
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick
The Forever War by Joe Haldeman
Cities in Flight by James Blish
The Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe
Gateway by Frederik Pohl
The Rediscovery of Man by Cordwainer Smith
The Stars My Destination by Alfred Bester

The same is possibly true for Asimov (for all that I think Foundation rubbish, I can't deny that others hold it in high esteem :-)). From what I remember, Asimov was published by a number of imprints in the UK back in the 1980s.
The obvious Asimov books - the Foundation, Robots and Empire books plus The Gods Themselves and I think Nemesis and maybe the Silverberg collaborations - are all held by Voyager though. I don't think Gollancz would be pursuing the Lucky Starr series for the Masteworks list In fact, I'm constantly surprised whenever I see new printings of the early 1990s Voyager reprints of the those series (the ones where you line them up to get a complete picture, like the excellent Foundation panorama of Trantor) on the shelves, as they have been in print continuously for the better part of 20 years now.

You can mix and match the 2 for 3 offer if you can find other books in the promotion. It doesn't have to be one of the SF masterworks...

Cor. Arthur C Clarke was even more prescient than I thought. According to Childhood's End, he knew there'd be a "Gherkin" in London in the future...

Some really epic covers, big improvement on the earlier books in the series.

Re: SF Masterwork series continued...

More titles listed on Amazon for future release:

"The Difference Engine" by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling (Paperback - 13 Jan 2011)
"The Prestige" by Christopher Priest (Paperback - 10 Feb 2011)
"Sirius" by Olaf Stapledon (Paperback - 14 April 2011)
"Hyperion" by Dan Simmons (Paperback - 12 May 2011)
"Of Men and Monsters" by William Tenn (Paperback - 11 Aug 2011)
"War With the Newts and R.U.R." by Karel Capek (Paperback - 8 Sep 2011)
"The Affirmation" by Christopher Priest (Paperback - 13 Oct 2011)
"Odd John" by Olaf Stapledon (Paperback - 1 Feb 2012)
"The Fall of Hyperion" by Dan Simmons (Paperback - 1 Mar 2012)
"Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley (Paperback - 1 April 2012)

Some interesting choices there. Lots more Christopher Priest, Dan Simmons and Olaf Stapledon. A few auhtors I haven't heard of before. The only bad call (in my opinion) is the inclusion of "Frankenstein". Afterall, it's already terribly easy to get hold of.

Re: SF Masterwork series continued...

well I never saw these at Waterstones, expect they'll be all gone now. But it seems strange to bring out Helliconia unless theyre going to include the rest of the trilogy!

Re: SF Masterwork series continued...

Helliconia is an omnibus edition of all three books.

Egg, I have a few of those already, but I think I'll replace them with the Masterwork edition.

Btw, has everyone seen the SFF Masterworks Reading Project blog? A group of people are reading through every book, and reviewing them.
