Agents

Is it a good idea to invest as much time in writing a letter to an agent as to a publisher?

Yes. I did work experience at a Literary Agents a few years ago now (2001 I think!). The principle is the same. They're just looking for excuses not to read to your work. If your letter isn't up to scratch then you can bet there's only one place your synopsis/script is going...

Re: Agents

If you've spent years working on your manuscript -- why wouldn't you invest a few weeks or months in writing the best letter to an agent that you possibly can?

Re: Agents

In a word: yes. These days you stand a better chance of finding an agent before a publisher (for book-length manuscripts, at least), so always approach them with your best foot forward.
