Ball Bounces Into Toy Hall of Fame

This is trivial in the extreme. But why did it take more than ten years for the ball to make the Toy Hall of Fame? Just wondering.

I am also strongly resisting several risque puns in this post.

I would have also voted for "Paper Aeroplane" over "Gameboy" but I suspect that the Museum needs at least some commercial sponsors.

Trying to avoid risqué puns:

The National Toy Hall of Fame should be roundly condemned for not having the ball in there from the beginning. In fact, it should be the first toy on the roll call**. Did they forget it or was it bounced? Why was it forced to play catch up? Frankly, I'm thrown by their earlier decisions. For not only is it a simple toy, it's known to cross boundaries, it's been net-enabled for centuries, it's kick-started many a sport, it's even take a hand in the creation of others.


** - Although in a wider context, it's a toss-up whether the ball or the stick should be at the top of the tree.

It may have been one of those deals where something so obvious just got overlooked. Balls are like that ya'know... sometimes you almost forget about them altogether.

It does seem surprising that the ball wasn't the first toy to make the list back when the list was just an idea for the future.

What isn't surprising is the plethora of awful puns that Ursa added to this thread. Though some of them were hySpherical

Bear, I exercised admirable self-restraint in avoiding ball puns, but it appears you decided to hit it for six. You should be ashamed - and don't try to put a favourable spin on it.
