Thread #50,000...

The Fifty Thousandth Thread!

Seemed fitting to commemorate it - but any ideas what to devote it to?

Suggestions, please...

Listing favourite threads of the past, perhaps? Or hailing absent friends?

I don' know much about squashing buttons, Cul, but I'm sure it's a wonderful pass-time.

The last couple of days, I've been checking out everyone listed as having a birthday on that day. Only about one in fifteen has logged in during the last couple of years. What happened? Did they get lives? It's so sad.

When I first joined the site, I had a look round at some of the older threads (don't laugh, but I didn't use the New Posts and UserCP commands for months) and became "familiar" with quite a few posters who were, it turned out, no longer posting.

Some, though, have returned, if only briefly: Paige Turner and Maryjane, to mention just two of them. And I saw a post from knivesout yesterday. (At first, I thought it was someone responding to an old knivesout post, but then I saw the date.)

I'll raise a glass to absent friends, seeing Knivesout back reminds of the days of Leto and Princess Ivy to name but two.

Re: Thread #50,000...

Well, if you would dedicate this important thread to lil auld me...

It turns out I had forgotten my password as well as my head. Still alive, if only barely kicking. Thank you Interference for remembering my disappearance (and in red!)
Hope you are all in good spirits or whatever it is you are drinking.

I've got a suggestion... why not devote the thread to how we all ended up here?
Just a brief story on that one post at another forum, that one post too many, the post that finally pushed an Admin over the edge. And being cast out you wandered the internet a lost soul until you washed up on these shores.

This isn't the post that got me banned, but it was where I hung out before ending up at Chrons. It's a little ways down, right after the comment by science fiction writer Tom Kratman.

Re: Thread #50,000...

Okay Sparrow, I'll take you up on that. My story is not filled with intrigue just dumb luck. I bought a new computer and that had some weird software loaded that asked questions about what you liked and showed web sites that were associated with it. I typed in "Science Fiction" and voila, up pops Chrons. I have read Science Fiction for decades and thought I knew more than a little about it...... While that was until I met J. D. .......... Now I view myself as a neophyte.

That was 50K threads, Dusty, as per the title of this one. We have well over a million posts.

I arrived here looking for a community. Other SFF forums I had belonged to in the past had eventually become more about politics (the real world kind) than about SFF. I missed belonging to a place where I could discuss the books I loved. Finally, I decided to do something about that, Googled SF and Fantasy, and after looking around a few other sites decided that this one looked like the best one to join.

And hey, I just realized, it's my fifth Chroniversary!

(Nice of you to start a thread in honor of the occasion, pyan.)
