And if that fails, I already have parts of the site regularly backed up, and will see if I can do the same with the forums on a weekly basis by emailing it to a dedicated PC here. Quote:

| Re: DDoS attack downtime Hi Brian thought I'd say hi and thanks also. I hope the spamer/attackers all we know we are all so impressed with their ability to break something that someone else was able to set up. I've always heard there are only 10 kinds of people in the world...those who understand bianary and those who don't... Ok I so stole it, but I love it. |

| Brian G. Turner | Re: DDoS attack downtime I'm really sorry about the extensive downtime yesterday everynody - the server move was a complete nightmare. The server failed no less than three times due to a kernel panic, and it had to be rebuilt each time. Meanwhile, the data transfer of chrons to the new server was repeatedly interrupted, both due to the new server crashing, but also due to the old server going offline from a new DDoS attack. Was absolutely not fun, and there may yet be a couple of niggles today - but hopefully from Monday morning chrons will be running without any danger of further incident - we're on a new beefy server, and have DDoS protection in place as well. Here's hoping it does stay running smooth. |

| Truth. Order. Moderation. | Re: DDoS attack downtime I am more ignorant than most about all things computorial, but I can recognise goodies and baddies. And you, Brian, are most definitely one of the goodies. Thank you so much for your strength and determination to keep the Chrons running. You are a hero to us all. I saw in one of your earlier posts here or on a related thread that this new server is costing more. I'm guessing the adverts posted at the top of the screen bring in money - but do they pay more if we look at them? Do you need us to have a concerted 'view every advert' to help offset the costs? J |

| Re: DDoS attack downtime Brian, keep up the good work, as the saying goes. I guess we all feel a little helpless whilst you work your back leg off supplying us with the means to do all those wonderful things we do on the chrons. I hereby raise a glass to you..... |

After giving up his weekend for nothing its the least we can do if him and his partner get a nice meal or something equivalent. What does everyone think? | |

| Re: DDoS attack downtime Hopefully, if we can organise another Chrons get-together, Brian will come along, and we can test his tolerance for ethanol, cunningly disguised in a flavoured base... |
