| Re: Self-Publishing . . . the numbers . . . I read recently that ebooks are surging. Sales in August were up something like 189%. I think that there will also be a role for traditional publishing for blockbuster authors, but those who write for mid-list niche markets are better off self-publishing. I respect those who go the traditional route, but I've chosen to go with an ebook only release. The numbers aren't spectacular but I'm in it more for the readership, so I've been giving out lots of free coupons. |

But my sales rank on Lulu hasn't shifted for months and months, despite my sales going up, so I just ignore it now. My rank on Book Depository is of constant amusement to me, though: some mornings it has gone up 1,500 places and other times (such as this morning) it has shot up 20,000 places. Always funny. | Re: Self-Publishing . . . the numbers . . . I was in London last week and noted Charing Cross Road Blackwells have a 'Books on Demand' machine chugging away towards the back. First one I'd seen. If it takes off then self publishers should benefit. |
