Palin to Resign as Alaska Governor

Quote:
Former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has announced she will resign as governor of Alaska on 26 July and not run for re-election.

Mrs Palin's term of office was due to end in 2010.

There has been speculation that Mrs Palin, who is very popular with the Republican Party base, might make a bid for the White House in 2012.

Her resignation means Alaska's Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell will take over as state governor.

Re: Palin to Resign as Alaska Governor

She sounds like she disapproves of anyone serving out their term after they've decided not to run again. By that standard, people could step down after the first year or two. Nice for the voters, who expect the person they voted into office to take their obligations seriously, and then find out otherwise.

I wonder whether it will really further her political ambitions to give people the idea that she doesn't finish what she starts if she even sniffs the remote possibility of something better.

Teresa I hope you are right. I find her to be scary. She is America's own religious fanatic in a way, with intolerance and hatred bubbling in her veins. While I am neither party, she is the reason I did not vote for McCain. Seeing her speeches and talks and what she was, I didn't want her anywhere near the White house. Still don't. I am not a politically active person but if she ran I would actively work to oppose her run.

Uhm could this mean she's making her larger focuses on things like running for president and then taking over the world and then screwing up like trying to fight North Korea or something...

By the way North Korea just sent seven missles against U.N.'s ruling n' all...

The woman is a complete nutter, Teresa, and the people that have ever supported her won't be swayed by any negative action she takes. Unfortunatley, that particular sect of America is just as crazy as she is and I'm sure she can spout nonsense and make them 'believe' she is on the side of all that is good and wonderful somehow.

Re: Palin to Resign as Alaska Governor

Yes, but although those are the people who might get her nominated, she needs a broader appeal to get elected.

And "quitter" won't look very good on her resumé.

Re: Palin to Resign as Alaska Governor

True. I have no doubt she could get nominated no matter what she does, but I'd really like to think someone as obviously crazy as she is would never actually get elected. Hopefully, we'll wont have to find out and she'll just quietly disappear and be forgotten. *sigh*

What intolerance and hatred? Religious fanatic? You all complained about Huckabee as well and he seems like a nice guy. Did I miss something from the campaign? I wouldn't vote for her but, I don't get the left's freakout and hatred comments.
The only actual policy position
I ever got from her was "Drill baby, drill." That would be only a partial solution to oil; she has no coherent economic or national defense policy ideas.
I just don't get where hatred comes from out of this. I also don't know why she is considered so conservative; public ownership of resources actually leans more toward socialism than laissez faire.

Apparently you did. She was the one who riled up the crowds she was speaking to, to the point where they were calling for Obama's death.

She's also the woman who knelt down in church (I've seen the video) and let a genuine witch-hunter pray over her to keep her safe from witches.

But putting the question of intolerance aside, she is the woman who wanted to be Vice-President of the United States, and didn't even know what the Vice-President's job was, and couldn't name one Supreme Court decision she disagreed with besides Roe v. Wade.

Um ... Dred Scott? Brown v. Board of Education? It's not like she had to come up with something esoteric.

I'm taking the charitable view here, and assuming that she didn't remember them, because remembering them and not naming them would have been a lot worse.

You have witch-hunters over there? Genuine witch-hunters?? Good grief.

On the other hand, if this witch-hunter is genuine, and can keep everyone safe from witches, perhaps it might be an idea for lots of you to be prayed over, and that might prevent Palin standing...

I don't really lean either way, actually find myself agreeing more often with Republicans, but am more of a middle type person. (Druid, neutral, get it ) And I have never met the woman so what she herself is truly like, I couldn't say but I can say that what she often inpires and what she seems to represent is scary and that is what I do not want to see as representative of the US. They are over now, but watch videos of her speeches, watch the crowds and how she responds and you will find what you may have missed.

I wasn't trying to give freakout and hatred comments and I wouldn't call myself the left . Also to my knowledge I never complained about Huckabee either (know even less about him). However, I do not like what she represents and I do not want it in Office.

Palin is no threat. If she is the best the Republicans can come up with then the party really is dead in the water and waiting for the next torpedo. She is an intellectual lightweight and even intensive briefings and cramming cannot make up for a lifetime of willful ignorance.

I would like to believe you are correct on this; but history teaches us that it is never wise to think "it can't happen", as such thinking (and therefore being off one's guard) is a good way to guarantee that it will....
