You know, I like giving her a hard time but exiled seems a bit harsh. I think you go at this the wrong way, we need to find a way for her to desire to leave not this overt authoritarianism you seem to wallow in.

Sometimes wishful thinking simply isn't enough.

That may be true but I sense she is not the type to bow to overt pressure. I think we need to be subtle, you know things like suggesting she apply for the writing contest with the large cash prize being held in Bahrain, explaining gently that she must present in person to apply. I am sure this will be more fruitful than the SS approach you seem to favor.

It can't be Bahrain: she might think that's the place where my Tumbleweed sheep rule.

(As to the real place: you'd have thought that a place so (relatively) short of fresh water wouldn't name itself after a feeling of indifference, if not hostility, towards precipitation. Perhaps, when their wells are close to running dry, they'll change the name to something more welcoming.)

I always say, "When you lose a sock, throw the other one away."

But I never listen to myself and just wear odd pairs to make myself seem interesting to strangers

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

My washer or perhaps dryer consumes socks (perhaps both), I have taken to purchasing identical socks in multiple pairs thus allowing me to mix and match. I still almost always have an individual very lonely sock but I give him(her) a special place in the sock drawer so in case a sibling shows up they can be reunited.

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

I'll often go to local auctions to try and find missing companion pieces. You get a lot more for a pair, you know

I actually have loads of half-pairs hanging up waiting for its mate to return. Like many marriages and romantic associations, socks can go through a bad patch.

As can toes.

Hmm as the guardian of 4 people's set of socks, I should like to say; I hate them. matching them, drying them; bring on the summer and sandals.

ps you could try bribery and corruption

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

For a number of years I tried those little plastic rings that you can force a pair of socks into to keep them together before throwing them in the washer and dryer but the machines were way ahead of me and began to eat the little plastic circles. I now simply have enought identical socks on hand to frankly not give a damn. Seems to be working.

I'll whisper this one

my mother in law insists on buying my kids the same socks, despite there being 5 years difference between them, so I have to match sizes and patterns.

drives me mad.

Perchance your mother-in-law has a method to her madness? Have you tried chocolate to soften her up?

I have. I have also tried pleading. So far, no break through. I shall try the glazed doughnuts next time.
