I bought trees on Sunday

(not a joke, I'm afraid, but absolutely factual representation of an event which occurred)

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

Were they running a 'buy two, get one free' offer?

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

It was a "buy five, get to pay for them all at full price" offer, actually. Who could pass something like that up? So I bought five. Two apple trees (one for cooking apples to replace the one I murdered a couple of years ago), a cherry (for the front garden - looking forward to the blossom cos I've no idea what cherry blossom is but they mention it in all the books as being something spectacular), a pear (somewhere to store last Christmas's partridges, really, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered) and a plum tree for the back.

That's what happens when you don't go to their main store, but to a branch.

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

I hope not, but the back window of the car does have strange marks on it-- No, wait, it's all right. That should wash off. And that. And maybe some rust remover on the wiper. Oh, and there's something that shouldn't still be there - at last the mystery of where the cat went has been solved.....

Trees are okay with cars, but a lot of chickens are very wary of hatchbacks.

Intoning during prayer? If we patent that we could make a fortune; Rosemary Conley, shift!

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

They've already invented the omelette.

But perhaps we could get a foot in the door with ingrowing toenails during prayer.

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

Hubby just asked what I was doing. I said I was trying to think of a pun that had to do with prayers, churches, ingrowing toenails or losing weight. His look said it all - and he didn't come up with anything. BAH

nice and quiet here today; lovely= *stretches*

Starts reading (fest of crows; not enjoying; hope Dances with dragons is better otherwise it will have confirmed all my reservations of epic fantasy and padding....)

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

Feast of Crows starts off quite rough but gets better, worth reading through it to get to ADWD though. ADWD is written better.

They both do have a bit of padding, but not overly. - nowhere near as bad as Wheel of Time.

Re: Last Post in This Thread Wins!

Story wise, Wheel of Time isn't actually that bad. Really the problem is that the plot is too complex. So many stories going on at once that it takes forever to get anywhere. The plot only takes baby steps forward each book, which is what people don't like.

The debate is if the padding was really needed or not and readers are split evenly on that debate. I guess some think that he could have dropped certain storylines.

But no, I don't think Wheel of Time is for you. It's written for serious epic fantasy fans (like me ).

EDIT: you do realise my MS is epic fantasy

although my first book isn't that bad, the second will be scary.
