Re: Breaking News: Michael Jackson "dies from heart attack"

I know very few facts about his personal life...

I do know that it wouldn't be a stretch to claim that the world has never seen a performer of his like.

I've never heard a more musical track than Human Nature, or a sexier track than Dirty Diana. I've never seen a cooler video than Billie Jean, or witnessed anything that sounded remotely like Thriller. His best tracks were almost impossibly original. Many of his musical arrangements and movements are of unsurpassed quality in pop music period.

I'm a huge Beatles fan, but they only send tingles down my spine on strange occasions I can't explain. With certain songs, Michael Jackson could do it time and again. No one could cut loose with every move and hang my attention on a single note quite like him.

For me, his music was a great experience.

Moderately talented

I would have to disagree there. Although I am not a fan, I did enjoy certain tracks of his (Man in the Mirror is one that comes to mind); AND who didn't experience the Thriller phenomenon!

He was a very talented person who in the field of music entertainment captured fans around the world; his no.1s and other records of achievement is a testament to that fact.

I really am not a fan, but it doesn't take a lot to appreciate a talented footballer even though you don't support his/her team and I find myself doing the same with Michael Jackson; not top of my list but talented nonetheless. RIP. (By the way Rodders, loved the RIP eee-hee joke )

Well, it's a common opinion. Vlad and High Eight aren't the only ones who feel that way. If it is any consolation to his fans, Michael Jackson could go almost anywhere in the world and draw millions from people who wished to partake of his talent.

Not many people, even very talented ones, can do that.

So, people have always made of him what they would, but seeing Michael Jackson perform wasn't like going to see anyone else. I can't give him all the credit for his success. He was surrounded by great musicians, and obviously had great musical direction from someone at some point in his life.

Actually, the surprise is probably that he was talented, but in spite of this he was still popular.

C of K. I think all I was trying to do is indicate that although he may not have been everyone's 'cup of tea' he was still very talented. I certainly don't take away the support crew he had helping him, but I thought that the statement that he was moderately talented was more about whether his (MJs) talent appealed to you, rather than recognising the talent itself.

For instance, Queen was a band I would have loved to have seen live. Freddie Mercury/Queen probably wasn't everyone's choice when it came to music, but again, I would still argue he/they were very talented.

And no, I didn't think Freddie was the second coming either (and I really am not an MJ fan LOL)

Re: Breaking News: Michael Jackson "dies from heart attack"

Oh, I know. You just seemed a little surprised that people would imply he was moderately talented. The first time I'd heard something like that, I was surprised. (just brought up his back up band because, In the midst of all this, I thought they should get some credit. They were fantastic.)

If he sets the bar for moderately talented, then I wouldn't mind being moderately talented. Unfortunately I am only a moderately talented musician, but I grew up around professionals. Most of them had the highest respect for Michael Jackson's abilities because performing at his level goes far beyond just singing your new song in front of a bunch of people. I've done that, but far less people cared.

For me there is no question... If Michael Jackson's star was rising for the first time in this day and age, he would become just as big a celebrity as he was in the 80's.

Re: Breaking News: Michael Jackson "dies from heart attack"

Whats lame is that people like Vlad judge a legendary musicians death on how the media handles it. Who cares about their frenzy, i mourn a great artist, singer, dancer.

Just because you dont like the media frenzy dont tell me or any other fan to move on.

About his talent Interference said it best its surprising how popular he was despite his level of talent.

Yeah but who said you have to be in cult to be a fan of MJ ?

Sure there are some cuckoos fans but i see nothing wrong with seeing other fans dancing in the streets,or mourning him publicly. Its in the media interest to show those fans.

Re: Breaking News: Michael Jackson "dies from heart attack"

A cult? LOL. Fans and some seriously strange fans maybe.
It is sad when something is taken to a harmful or serious level, but the majority of fans are just sad they have lost a hero.

I agree with the media side though, who wants to see someone looking sad and being able to talk articulately about their hero.....when you can have a complete nutter having a mental breakdown on TV. Same happens with Star Trek; rarely see the NASA scientist that enjoys the show, but the guy that remodels his living room into a Starship bridge and talks Klingon 24hrs a day....

Gotta say though, doesn't the massive fanbase and devoted followers who collect dvds/memorabilia, dress up and mimick their hero(s), etc etc sound anything different from fans of..........

Star Trek
Star Wars
Retro Sci-Fi films etc etc etc (Vampires Vladd67?)

Ahem, live long and prosper
