Out, D**mned SunSpots !!

NASA - Mystery of the Missing Sunspots, Solved?

"At an American Astronomical Society press conference today in Boulder, Colorado, researchers announced that a jet stream deep inside the sun is migrating slower than usual through the star's interior, giving rise to the current lack of sunspots."

They've used helioseismology to trace the cyclical drift of Sun's Gulf-Stream equivalent, and it's running a little late...

Care: So far, it is correlation, not 'Cause & Effect'...

"Rachel Howe and Frank Hill of the National Solar Observatory (NSO) in Tucson, Arizona..."

Nice to see some research coming out of Tucson (which is where I'm from). I actually just visited the Solar Observatory at Kitt Peak in Tucson a couple weeks ago, its quite impressive.
