Yes, adverstisers push the 'sex sells' envelope. This is nothing new. Is it damaging to our society in some way? Probably. Could risque advertising shoved in our faces be ignored anyway? Probably.

Perhaps they thought it's good marketing psychology to attract female consumers? Well, in my case, it failed too, miserably. I don't care if it's topless or bottomless, it's so totally tasteless, artless, brainless. In fact I've always liked their perfume Contradiction. Now it smelled somewhat...cheaper.

Over here we recently had adds removed simply because they said "Want longer lasting Sex?" and people found them offensive and didn't want their kids reading sex funny thing is, that calvin klien add probably wouldn't cause so much of a stink.

You know what has always annoyed me?

I'm a b cup. Half the men I know have bigger boobs than I do.

I never wear a bra because they are extremely uncomfortable (except to special functions) and I'm not saggy so I really don't have to.

I don't get why men with bigger, and hairy, breasts than I have don't have to wear a bra and can run around topless when people tend to think I should wear a bra and I can't run around topless?

Seriously, is our society so messed up that we constantly have to objectify female breasts as objects of sex?

Now running around bottomless is different since men can't run around bottomless either.

Also, that add is PG13. I've seen worse on MTV at my sister's house. Get over it people.

A few years back used to have to commute by train. Quick route to work was through a grubby underpass under a shopping centre. The walls were covered with illuminated billboards and one for a bra advert was especially prominent - it was for a bra where you pulled on a draw string and could adjust the height. Lots of tits and teeth and bouffant blond hair. I so did not need to see that at about 8am after a long train ride on my way to a cramped desk in an open plan holding over a hundred people.

On the off white tiles everywhere else were lots of radical muslim group stickers advertising fundamental values. Wierdest juxtaposition. (The stickers were elsewhere in town as well, not just next to the bras).

And as for Calvin Klein - why does anyone think human barbie and ken dolls will sell anything? As for shock value advert, United Colours of Beneton adverts made Beneton famous, but didn't necessarily sell more goods.

By the way did anyone else see an advert that was on bus shelters in London in the late '80s. It was for an Australian perfume called "Sheila". The bottle had a bush hat with corks round it as a stopper, and the caption said "Also repels flies".
It looked brilliant. I tried to buy some for my mother for Christmas as she'd have loved it but no-one was stocking it.
Years later I learnt it was a poster designed for testing whether people noticed posters on bus stops.

Whilst i understand that sex sells, that poster could be considered almost erotic. There will be lots of young, impressionable children that will see that advert day in, day out. How is this likely to affect their attitudes towards sex as they get older? Are they more likely to be promiscuous?

"Almost Erotic?" Am I the only one who noticed the position of the hands in the ad? This was way beyond the sexy model selling the sports car where your eyes keep going back to the model. This was most certainly erotic, I would say it bordered on pornographic.

Probably Parsons, but not very interesting porn unless your a prepubescent boy. The people in the ad look unexcited about the whole thing, bored even, like it is just something you do on a saturday afternoon with your mates.

The girl's head is at an uncomfortable angle, and the composition of the picture is awkward, so that my first reaction without thinking about it was that something disturbing was happening. It didn't strike me as erotic, because the impression it made was too unpleasant. Then when I looked at it more closely I realized what it was really about, but it was too late to take back that first impression.

I don't think it will be very effective at selling jeans or group sex.
