I dont know... money doesnt buy everything. And I think the paparazzi would be hell too. Imagine having camaras shoved in your face everytime you left your house. There's a LOT of things you wouldnt be able to do unless you had a whole fleet of bodyguards with you. Dont get me wrong - having millions to spend however you want and go on vacations whenever you felt like it would be quite nice, but it would be very hard to meet people without having to worry that their just using you for money.

Do you really think any of those popstars knew what they were getting in to at the start? Its not like the Stones or the Beetles being mobbed by hot groupies, this is perverted stalkers and armies of 12 year olds begging and crying for you to sign their crappy poster. Add to that the frequent alien abductions which the good people at Esquire and Star inform us about...

I'm searching for sympathy and coming up very short!

Mariah was heavily marketed from the start, and once you let your life & image become a media circus to make some extra money you can't avoid the outcome. I do have a small (miniscule) amount of sympathy for 1 or 2 celebrities who just seem to have been picked on, but the vast majority know the fate that awaits them and go for it.
Indeed some not only go for it they become shameless media prostitutes or even more bizarrely, become famous for being famous rather than through any sense of achievement. The sad sideshow that is Big Brother comes to mind, as do any huge number of has-been & never-were Z-list actors.

It can be easy to live a quiet life as a celebrity as long as do don't do anything stupid to draw unwanted attention to yourself - e.g. drugs or getting caught in a public toilet doing naughty things
