No need, citizen, I have my own pan-dimensional frequency-oscillating phase-generating portal. Howdya think I got the name? From my days working in radio? I think not

Re: 1000 Post Club

Of course it has nothing to do with the radio: it's the nickname of someone who buries** tree shepherds.

LOTR: Ents are tree shepherds.

Burying Ents is not a profitable business. Treebeard was supposed to be the longest living (intelligent) creature in the book. (At least that's how I remember it: and it has been over a week since I read that section.)

Re: 1000 Post Club

And to you, good moderator, sir, although 'tis about 8:30 am here. After 4 hours of shoveling snow, though, I'm pretty sleepy, too....

*Returns to door duty, and notices that Hatshepsut has turned into a statue at 999...*

Ah well, at least Hat can adorn the doorway....

*Observes that there's some kind of Ursanian susceptibility there, but resolves to grin and bear (ar ar) it...*

Shelob was the last actual Child of Ungoliant, Grim, but she in turn had plenty of offspring - the Spiders of Mirkwood are hers, as are occasional snacks when there are no Orcs, Men or Hobbits around...

Great Spiders

The Hobbit describes a colony of sapient and over-sized spiders in the northern parts of Mirkwood at the end of the Third Age. The Elves of Thranduil's realm tried unsuccessfully to exterminate them. During the events of the book, Thorin's company was captured by spiders and enmeshed in webs; however, Bilbo Baggins managed to free them with the aid of his sword Sting and his magic ring.
The Lord of the Rings adds that these spiders were of the brood of Shelob, who in turn was a child of Ungoliant, and that they inhabited southern regions of Mirkwood as well. It also suggests that the spiders appeared after the Shadow fell on Mirkwood around T.A. 1050.

Heh.

The fellowship could have used a Spiderman, imho.
