Prestigious award for Jean-Luc Picard...?

Well, nearly...but it's nice to see that Patrick Stewart can win a third Larry in spite of the fact his best-known role is in an SF TV series....

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Arts & Culture | Olivier honour for actor Stewart

Well Shakespeare is where he came from, its his first love. Some may see it the other way, that in the 80s it was strange to see this Shakespearean actor doing, ahem, sci fi,and on TV too. Good lord!

Re: Prestigious award for Jean-Luc Picard...?

Only trouble is, I saw his Claudius and he was rubbish! Even fluffing his lines the night we went.

He was a good Prospero and an adequate Antony for the RSC a couple of years ago so I thought the part in Hamlet would be a cinch for him. Not so.

So why did he win? Luvviedom? Look out for nominations for both him and Ian McKellen for Godot next year, regardless of merit.

Yours cynically

You may have a point, MH. Sometimes they do just give them away with the rations.
