Found this one at a secondhand bookshop in very good condition. How is this book, any good?

It's alright. Very fast paced and exiting - not a whole lot of thought put into it.

It was something he wrote very quickly to pay a few bills.

I assume this is a reference to the Perishers that used to appear in the Daily Mirror.

Yes. Every year Boot(the dog) used to go and check on the crabs in the rock pool.

The crabs had a religion based on his annual appearance/visit where he was known as "The eyes in the sky".
