![]() Welcome to the Chrons, BaDHaBiTt (that is very annoying to type). You wouldn't happen to be a fan of the punk rock band The Monks, would you? ![]() You should hop to the introductions thread: Introductions - Science Fiction Fantasy Chronicles: forums, and introduce yourself, and browse around here. GRRM is not the only game in town (good thing, too, or we wouldn't have read anything since 2004.) | |

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD thank you, thank you... I will browse that thread... If I may go a little off topic here.... A couple of years ago I read a fantasy novel written by a black author... Can anyone tell me if they know of any black fantasy author, because I can't remember his name or the name of the book, and I really want to read the next volume of that series. -EDIT- Found it. David Anthony Durham, I really recommend his book w*w.davidanthonydurham.com Last edited by BaDHaBiTt; 10th February 2011 at 06:55 PM. |

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD Can you pm me with a few more details on this book please? What makes it so good - not heard of him before so by the sounds of things might be worth a try? |

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD He's a historical fiction author who's switched to writing fantasy. The trilogy is called ACACIA and consists of THE WAR AGAINST THE MEIN, THE OTHER LANDS and THE SACRED BAND, which is due out later this year. I haven't read it, but it's been well-received in general. GRRM himself has said it's excellent. |

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD By the description, I thought you meant even darker than dark fantasy, i.e. black fantasy. You know, something more than juvenile fantasy, high fantasy, or historical fantasy... uh, black fantasy. After looking up the author, David Durham, and reading a review of Acacia, I now know you meant black (African-American) author of fantasy. Was it just me that misunderstood? Man, how the world changes. When I was a kid, everyone was red, brown, yellow, black, or white. Just when I get used to the current terms... someone slips an old one in on me. Well, from the review and the fact that Wert said GRRM liked Acacia... I might be trying it soon. |

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD Funny how different eras have different effects. For instance, it's clear, just from the novel's title, that Acacia: The War with the Mein was written in the Bush era. ![]() ![]() ![]() Seriously, though: one can see from the Wiki article why GRRM might like it: Quote:

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD I read Acacia. A good book generally, but the characters were uninspiring. I just didn't care what happened to them. Good threadjack, btw. Might as well have something to do while waiting for the next update on ADWD. |
