| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD Tansy, the Tower of the Hand has chapter by chapter summaries of all the books. That's the fast way to reacquaint yourself. |

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD That would only reacquaint one with the plots, Boaz (which is no bad thing in itself), but to reacquaint oneself with the whole universe of A Song of Ice and Fire requires a proper re-read of the books themselves. And it isn't as if this is a chore**. ** - Although I'm sure that there are those out there who have contrary views about one or other of the POVs. |

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD Shame he didn't say Freying: then there'd be something soon to be read. And if GRRM is hopeful, so am I. * Wonders: Does solidarity help books get written? * |

| Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD GRRM posting that says a lot. Given the tremendous difficulty he's had attempting to unravel that knot it's a great sign that he's willing to even be hopeful. I'll go even further and say that he's adopting the "J. Edgar Hoover" strategy of putting people on the FBI 10 most wanted list. Wait until the guy is surrounded in a motel and is about to come out, THEN put him on the list. Not really, but you get the point. I think George has figured out that the way not to get burnt on the Interwebs is not to promise anything you might not be able to deliver. He clearly needs to spend more time before it's completely untied, but IMO the brunt of the work is done. I'm very hopeful and excited about this latest update. |

Me too. Only in Poland. Imp, I'm also excited. I've recently been thinking back upon my favorite stories when I was twelve... John Carter of Mars and Conan the Barbarian... Not to malign Burroughs and Howard, but they did not really strenuously work at integrating dozens of characters, events, time lines, and themes over thousands of pages. They worked in a different format. In my estimation, Martin is giving a much more mature story, in both plot and theme, so that the result will be much more satisfying. And I won't dread Martin using Deus Ex Machina to resolve his Mereenese knot. Last edited by Boaz; 27th February 2010 at 05:56 PM.

If so, that's a nice chunk etched in stone.

As for page count, it depends on the page formatting and font size. ASoS was 1,530 MS pages and 912 pages in hardcover and about 1,200 in mass-market paperback (or two 600-odd page books in the UK). ACoK was 1,180 MS pages and 700 pages in hardcover and about 800 in mmpb in the UK and 1,000 in the USA for some reason (the UK mmpb's font size was really small, whilst a lot more readable in the USA). So at the moment ADWD should come in at longer than ACoK but shorter than ASoS. The exact page-count depends on how the publishers divide it up.
