Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD It looked to me like a pun**, i.e. he used the image to point out that the Snow with which he'd had a good day was Jon Snow, not the white stuff that falls from the sky and may accumulate on the ground. And who wouldn't want to poke a bit of fun at those who desperately hang on (and dissect) every word one utters. (Just be glad I'm not a writer of best sellers. )And if I were being truly cynical, I'd be tempted to interpret the graphic and the "Aggrevated" of his next post as a metaphorical red rag to a (load of) bull. (He plays with our emotions in the books, so why not on his blog?) ** - On the other hand, I'm always seeing puns where none were intended.

Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD Ursa, you and I are on the same wavelength on this one. I think it's pretty clear the message we will all get from GRRM when he's actually finished and it's not the first time he has said this. I also agree with Wert that he is underselling it.

Martin and Wurts are waaaaay easier to comprehend, and for that reason, I like them better, but Erikson is really starting to get interesting. Now back to our regular programming... Okay, I appreciate that GRRM is underselling. From my personal perspective, and notwithstanding the howling of the impatient masses, I'd rather not hear anything from him until he says "Manuscript submitted to publisher". Just my own preference. I can ignore the lack of ADWD until then. | |

Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD And I'm guessing that there will be a thread here on the Chrons, with a title something like: "GRRM Finishes ADWD!!!!!!!" (Sorry, but I am, for the moment, unable to predict the number of exclamation marks in that title.)

Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD I don't read his blog because I know it would just annoy me. I'm pretty happy just getting my information from this forum. I like this happy, little place. For the most part, we just discuss the series and that's about it. I'm glad that there's very little "FINISH IT, GEORGE" drama here. That's why I keep coming back to this forum. It's bad out there on other forums and in the blogosphere. Right now, there's a huge blowup going on that started when someone posted an excerpt of the new Dunk and Egg novella on their blog. Emotions boiled over quickly (no one seemed to care that they were getting a preview of the new story) and now all the usual defenders are launching their own salvos of retaliation on their blogs. It's ugly and stupid and it doesn't take me long to stop reading all that junk and come back here to read more of whatever we're discussing at the time.

Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD I think George sometimes forgets how much the ASoIaF fanbase has exploded since AFFC came out (which sometimes doesn't actually seem that long ago, until I look at the five-year gap in the dates) and that a lot of people now commenting on his blog and so forth weren't around when he finished AFFC. When AFFC was finished, he posted a massive picture of the book cover with "IT'S DONE!!!!!!!!!" in huge letters underneath. I assume something similarly unambiguous will happen with ADWD. However, all the 'ASoIaF-volume-completion-announcement-virgins' have no clue at all over this and thus interpret anything that could be the completion announcement to be the announcement. And no, the book and the HBO series have no bearing on one another. Although given GRRM's current speed, I wouldn't rule out him announcing completion in March (around the time HBO is supposed to make its decision on the series), which may make it appear that way. I'm actually starting to suspect the completion announcement will be in May, on the unscientific but statistically interesting grounds that's when he finished ACoK, ASoS and AFFC in their respective years.

Re: New GRRM Update on ADWD Okay, I will risk my virtual life and bet on the first half of 2010. I'm not even a born optimist. This is doubling down because if I win, I also get the book to read! I'm a mad woman on the stock market, too!
