By Jove: A Joint Jaunt to Jupiter

Quote:

Nasa and the European Space Agency have decided to forge ahead with an ambitious plan to send a probe to the Jupiter system and its icy moon Europa.

The proposal could be the agencies' next "flagship" endeavour, to follow on from the successful Cassini-Huygens mission to the Saturn system.

Officials had been considering the Jupiter mission along with a venture to Saturn's moons Titan and Enceladus.

But they will target an earlier flight opportunity for the Europa mission.

By the way, they're looking at a launch year of 2020 and a six year journey, so don't go holding your breath....

Isn't that like poking the ant's nest? Won't the aliens be perturbed?

What're you worried about? You've got at least 17 years to sort out your affairs.

Ah, but no rational being would order a preemptive strike if it was not clear that aggression was intended, and the capacity for that aggression existed.

And no irrational being would be able to assemble the preemptive apparatus over that distance.

I think Titan is by the far the most interesting, but I guess they need to slingshot via Europa first.

It's all so painfully slow. Where are our nuclear powered spin ships? All this nannying about is making me grow old before we get anywhere.

Time I think to invent a simple way to fold space so here to there can get a bit faster. First a spot of lunch then I'll start inventing, should be done by dinner.
